Chase was afraid of going to Hogwarts. While most kids were excited to be going and getting away from their parents, Chase was afraid. He knew the minute he left, his dad would go for a bottle, and his mom would get beaten. When he was there, Chase tried to make sure his mom didn't get the brunt of the abuse. He always took it instead of his mom because he didn't want her to get hurt. He'd rather get hurt himself.
Last night was horrible. Chase's dad decided that it was some stupid magic school and that Chase didn't need to go to it. His mother fought for him, but only ended up with a few bruises. She had to smuggle Chase out this morning. She told him how to get on the platform, gave him wizarding money, and told him she loved him. It was more than Chase's dad had ever done for him. He didn't live far from Kings Cross Station, so he walked there. His luggage weighing him down, but he didn't care. He was going to Hogwarts.
His mother had taken him shopping not too long ago in Diagon Alley. Where he got everything he would need for Hogwarts. He hadn't let go of his wand once. He had read through his textbooks, what he could be bothered with, and loved every word he read. He couldn't wait to go learn magic.
The platform was busy. There were kids of all different sizes saying goodbye to their parents, meeting up with other kids there. It was amazing to see. It gave Chase hope that maybe he would find someone that he would want to meet up with next year as the train boards.
Chase carried his stuff on the train and quickly found an empty compartment. He didn't want to have any awkward conversation if he couldn't find an empty one, so he was happy he had. He put his trunk up and sat on the seat next to the window. He was watching the loving parents say goodbye, give kisses and hugs. He wanted that. He had his mother, who gave him a hug and kiss before he left. So he was glad about that. He just hoped no one saw the bruises from his loving father.

' ' You know I need this job, son, it's better pay!' ' You'll thank us for this one day.' It was always the same responses. Deep down, Brent knew they were right about the whole issue of his schooling and his father's new job. Still, he couldn't see him ever thanking them for this. On Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, Brent looked pointedly away from his parents as they went on about how quiet the house would be without him and how much they'd missed them. "I don't care! How long's it gonna take for you to realise that?" he finally snapped at them, pulling away from his father as he put a hand on his arm. Without another word, Brent picked up his luggage and boarded the Hogwarts Express. He didn't even glance back when he heard his parents calling his name because he just didn't care. They were just making a scene. When he saw that there wasn't any empty compartments left on the train, Brent settled for one with some other kid in there who Brent guessed was a first year since he didn't think he'd ever seen him before. "Hey, don't mind if I join yah, right?" he flashed a brief, forced smile at the other boy, but Brent's annoyance was clear once the smile had left his face. Without waiting for the first year to answer, Brent entered the compartment and put away his luggage before taking a seat opposite the boy. He purposely looked away from the window, not wanting to see his parents.[/ul]

Chase jumped a bit when he saw a boy come into his compartment. The boy flashed Chase a smile, but Chase was good at reading people, he knew it was a forced smile. It didn't even stay long on his face. Chase didn't entirely know what to think about that, though. He supposed it was just something the boy was mad about. It wasn't like Chase had done anything yet. "Sure..." Chase mumbled as he pulled his eyes away from the window to look at the other boy better.
He looked... older. But not by much. Chase thought maybe he was a year older than him. He had black hair and brown eyes. He looked... well. Adorable. Chase had always known about his sexuality. Knew that he swung both ways so to speak. It wasn't weird for him, in his mind, to call a guy adorable.
"Oh.. er. I'm Chase. Chase Jackson." Chase said, remembered his manors before sticking his hand out to the boy in front of him, who was purposely starring away from the window. "I'm a first year." Chase didn't think it was necessary to tell him that, since it was probably obvious, but he felt like it anyways.

Maybe Chase was just seeing things. Surely, Brent? Wasn't glaring at him. What could he have done to make the dude glare at him. He couldn't think of anything at all. Chase just kind of sat there, tugging down the sleeves of his shirt over his wrists to hide any bruises.
"Gryffindor? My mom's told me about the four houses... I think Gryffindor sounds like the best house to be in, but I'm not really brave at all. I don't really stand up for anything or whatever. I mean, you have to be brave to be in Gryffindor, right? I'll probably end up in Hufflepuff or something, my mom said that's the least notable house... I'm not exactly smart or cunning so Ravenclaw and Slytherin are out..." Chase started rambling. He always did when he got nervous.
He took a deep breath when he realized what he did. "I'm sorry... I uh. Ramble when I'm nervous or scared or... anything."

the best house, I'm not gonna lie. But there's more to being in Gryffindor than just being brave. Whatever you do, don't end up in Hufflepuff." Brent told Chase amusedly after he'd finished rambling on about the houses, "Whatever, 's okay."[/ul]

Chase seemed to relax a bit when he saw Brent smirk like... he was sorry maybe. Chase hoped that Brent realized that he might of scared the shit out of Chase when he glared at him like that. Chase wanted to make friends here, not enemy's. "I hope I'm in Gryffindor, then." Chase said, smiling across at the boy in his compartment.
The train started moving and Chase looked out the window again. He saw parents waving and younger siblings running after the train. Probably wanting to go on the train with their brother or sister. Chase didn't have any siblings, and although he's always wanting siblings, he would never want to subject any other kid to what his dad did.
"Well... maybe we'll end up in the same house then. My mum was a Gryffindor." Chase explained with a hopeful smile. It would be nice if he ended up there, then he would at least know one person.

Willhellminna Theoreux, second year, slytherin house, was looking for her best friend Maryn Lovegood and an empty compartment. Not far from her, Brent McKinney was talking to a first year and looking like an idiot so early in the year. she decided to be just mean while looking for Maryn. She smirked and made her way to where Brent was.
"Well, well, well... Brent McKinney of Gryffindor. Being all chummy with the new first years I see... Hopefully they won't catch you idiocy. Everyone knows its contagious." Minna said all high and mighty. She hated Brent simply because he was from Gryffindor. she turned to the first yearr, "Minna Theoreux, Second Year, of Slytherin House. If you have the right mind on, you'd better stay away from McKinney before your intelligence drops to zero, new kid." she said.
Minna crossed her arms across her chest. It wasn't like she had anything better to do, but making Brent's day horrible was one of the things she liked doing ever since she and Maryn noticed him and vowed to just be a thorn in his side. "Well, I better leave now before I catch you disease McKinney..." Minna said before pushing pass Brent and the new boy, not bothering to ask for his name.
Since Brent had talked to him first, it was already certain that the new kid was either going to Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. If the hat was smart enough, it would place the kid far from McKinney. She smirked as she rounded the corner and heading to the Slytherin compartment, hoping Maryn was already there.

you." Brent shouted at the Snake but didn't move at all. He wasn't in the mood for a fight, not when he thought he might have the chance of making a new friend. "Ignore her, she's the one with the disease."[/ul]

Alexander didn't think he'd ever been more nervous. He felt like he was literally about to throw up everywhere. He had never been good with trains anyway, so it just added to his paling face. It probably didn't help either that he was one of the last on the train, he'd been clinging to his mamá, asking her if he could just go to the magical school in Spain, telling her that he didn't like it already and just in general whining to her in Spanish.
Caterina had none of it though and threatened to make a scene and drag him onto the train by his ear if he didn't hurry up. Alex had hurried then after a long hug and promises to write every day. Armed with a leather satchel and an animal carrier (carrying a green-eyed black cat called Oscuro, Tootie's father in years to come), Alex boarded the train with one last, painful glance at his mum cradling his one year old sister, Zoe. His father had been called to work. Alex had cried.
Walking past the other compartments and peering through the glass, Alex realized his mistake of hugging his mum until the very last moment. Everyone had seemed to found seats, filling the compartments. Alex felt the all too familiar feeling to anxiety bubble in his chest. This wasn't good. This wasn't good at all. He wanted a compartment by himself so he wouldn't have to talk to anyone. Looked like it was a bit too late for that.
The young boy clutched onto his possessions a little tighter on seeing a blonde girl storm from one and a boy shout after her. What he had said, Alex had no idea. His English wasn't too good yet - the reason why he wished to avoid socialization at all costs. His own fault for only really buckling down to learn English over the summer, he blamed his father though for sticking him in a private Spanish-speaking school.
To Alex's dismay, the compartment where the shouting had came from was the only one so far that had free space. The boy swallowed dryly, praying to Santa María and asking her to make this end well. Alex stood by the door and managed a weak smile.
"The rrest... filled up." He dragged his 'r's with a roll of his tongue and he wasn't sure if "filled up" was correct. But he was sure he'd made himself clear...ish. Alex sat on the bench where the unsorted student sat but waaaay on the other side. He brought his legs up and quickly dug in his bag for one of the mangas he had brought with him for the trip. He'd decided on Nana. Ren was so cool in it. Alex's interest for guitar was because of him.
Alex glanced up at at the other two boys, forced a smile and lifted the manga right up to his face after slipping on some glasses. Signal for "don't talk to me". His other hand was by the animal carrier, he'd poked a long finger through the bars and was absent-mindedly scritching his cat behind his ear. Porfavor no me hablen, no me hablen, no me hablen, por favor.

Okay... so maybe Chase had to relook when Brent flipped off his parents. "Why did you just flip off your parents..." Chase didn't really understand it. Brent looked like he was serious about flipping them off, and even if it was a joke. It wasn't a very good one. Chase would kill to have both of his parents seeing him off. Well... his mother.
"Right... I'll think about that. How long does the train ride take?" Chase asked, he was scared shitless about getting sorted. He wanted to be in Gryffindor. More now that he met Brent and he was a Gryffindor. He kind of just wanted somewhere where he belonged.
Chase was startled when a girl walked in and basically told him not to talk to Brent. Well that was odd. Chase didn't say a word, he just looked to Brent for help. But it wasn't long before she left, which Chase was glad about. "I'm guessing the two of you don't get along very well..." Chase asked kind of wearily. Brent seemed nice... she... well. Didn't.
It wasn't long after Minna left that a small boy came in. He looked like a first year too, which made Chase excited because he might end up being in the same house and sharing a dorm with this guy. And if not... well. They still had to have classes together. "Hey!" Chase greeted with a bright smile on his face, but it didn't seem like the boy wanted to talk at all. Chase just figured he was shy or something. "I'm Chase Jackson. And that's Brent uh. McSomething." Chase said with his eyebrows burrowing. He couldn't exactly remember Brent's last name. But McSomething was definitely close. "You must be a first year too."

Oh Lord, Alex was being talked to. And he didn't understand anything. He thought he'd been doing well with his English teacher and her tapes but... he guessed that it didn't exactly prepare him for the real test: socializing with actual people. Alex peered over the top of his manga, face burning as red as a tomato. What did he do?
"Y-Yes." He stuttered, smiling and nodding. Hopefully that would do. And now they'd leave him alone. It would have to do because he really didn't feel capable of holding an actual conversation. Alex quickly pulled his cat, Oscuro, out of the carrier and hugged him close. He wanted to go home already. This year was going to be terrible.
Wide-eyed, he looked at both boys before disappearing back behind his translated copy of Nana. Alex was trying to concentrate but he already felt a cool sweat tickle the back of his neck. He was so nervous. Por favor... no me hablen más.

Chase's eyebrows burrowed when the dude seemed to... not understand? Maybe he couldn't speak English... no. That couldn't be. He was being sent to an English speaking school. There was no way he couldn't speak English. "That's awesome! Maybe we'll be in the same house!" Chase said with a smile on his face. "What're you reading? What's your name?" Chase asked the boy next to him before looking over at Brent.
"Right... McKinney. I won't ever forget again." Chase told Brent with a smile. "But seriously? Five hours? I don't think my nerves will last that long. I want to get sorted like... now. What if I end up with that bitch Minna!" Chase asked him with wide eyes before realizing he swore. "Oh sorry... for uh. swearing..." Chase swore a lot, but most of the time he always apologized for it. His dad would get mad if he swore.
