Mackenzie was sitting there, in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, waiting for Professor McKinney to show up for the class. It was so like him to be late for a lecture. It happened every year. Then again, almost fifteen minutes late was majorly late, even for him. Most of the students were just quietly talking to the people sitting next to them. Mack was doing nothing but sitting there, tapping his Quill on the table. Waiting for the class to start so he could just get out of. That's all he really cared about.
Mack heard the door swing open and turned his heard to see Brent running in, clearly out of breath. Mack chuckled a bit as he apologized for being late. Mack's temper was already raised a bit for having to wait so long for the class to start that he just kind of spoke without knowing he was.
"Not like we aren't used to it," Mack said it with a glare on his face. He would probably get in trouble for it, but he didn't care.

Mack saw Professor McKinney glare at him and look like his head was about to pop off, which Mack thought would be hilarious but not probable. He seemed to gather himself a bit before addressing Mack. One thing Mack always loved about himself was the fact he could read others emotions quite easily.
"Sorry, Professor." Mack put emphasis on the professor, as to show that he knew how he should be talking to him, but didn't find it necessary when the teacher didn't see fit to show up to class on time.
When he finally moved on with the class, Mack was surprised they were learning about Horcruxes. He had read a book about them over the past summer because he came across them in a different book and thought they were interesting. Mack held back his laugh when McKinney said he would be surprised if anyone knew what they were. Mack didn't raise his hand, but instead just shouted out the answer like he normally did.
"A Horcrux is a piece of a soul." Mack could have given McKinney the long and boring definition but thought it best to just go with the simple one. It would work. McKinney would know that Mack knew what it was. Not that he was trying to impress him or anything. he just liked proving people wrong. It was fun for him.

Mack saw the glare McKinney sent his way. Again.... Mack didn't know why, but he seemed to be in an extra pissed off mood today. Which just happened to make Mack's entire day. He loved feeding off of other people's misery. Yeah, so what if that made him masochistic. He was perfectly okay with that.
Brent told him he had the right answer. He knew he did. What he didn't know was that Mr. Grumpy pants wasn't even going to give him points for that answer. What a dick. Mack was in his own house and he wasn't even going to give points to someone that answered something most people in the school hadn't even heard about it.
Brent told the class the description of the horcrux. Which sounded awfully familiar to Mack. It took him a second to realize that he had read that. His near photographic memory remembered reading it in a book he picked up over the summer. Mack snorted out loud at the professor. Not really even thinking about it till it came out. He was totally going to end up with a detention before this class was over with.
Strangely... Mack was okay with that.

Then Brent heard a snort and knew instantly who it had come from. "Mr Stone!" he snapped, his patience with the boy wearing thin, "Would you care to explain to me what exactly is so funny?"[/ul]

Mack knew McKinney was going to say something about him snorting. He would have been amazed if he didn't. It seemed like Mack's Professor's temper was running on the short side today, and Mack never really took heed to things like that. He often made them worse.
"Nothing. Professor. I just happened to remember something funny." It wasn't exactly a lie, but Mack made his facial expressions seem like he was lying completely. It would make things more interesting and at this rate he was already going to get a detention. Might as well make things fun.
Mack couldn't help himself. "Well. You see professor. I just happen to read a lot in my off time. When I'm not waiting for a professor to show up late for a lesson that is. And I just happened to read the exact same thing you just said. And I thought it was funny that you seemed to memorize it instead of trying to teach it your own way."

Mack was seething. He was beyond pissed. Sure, he knew he was going to get a detention for what he was doing. But never in a million years did he think that his own head of house would let his quidditch team lose by making Mack miss the game this saturday.
"Professor! You can't! I can't miss the game! We don't have any Chaser reserves! I can't miss the game!" Mack was mad, but he knew that if he had any hope what so ever he would have to attempt to keep him temper in check.
Mack thought of what Jacob had told him. How the scout was coming to the game. How this was a one time opportunity. He just couldn't miss this game.
"Please, Professor McKinney. This game means more than any other game. I'll take detention for a week if I can just go to this game. Please." Mack looked at him in a pleading way. He didn't know what to do. He would try anything.

Mack had to figure something out. He couldn't miss this game. It was way too important to miss. This game could be the only chance Mack had to be able to go pro. This was the only chance he had. How could this professor ruin it when he knew how important it was to Mack. He was the captain too! Of his own house's team! This wasn't fair.
"Please, professor. I'll do anything. Just let me play this game. I'm sorry. I let my temper get away from me. Surely you've done that before too... Please. Just let me play."
Mack sat in the front of the class, so he dropped his voice down so no one else in the class could hear him practically begging their professor. He really would do anything. Quidditch was Mack's life... this just couldn't be happening.

Mack thought about having to tell his team. He didn't know if he could do that. He already got beaten to a pulp by by Lauri and Alex. And that wasn't because of anything Quidditch related. He dreaded telling them that he couldn't even be there because his stupid mouth had gotten him in trouble again. It wasn't fair!
"Please, Professor. I'd do anything... Please. Just let me play. Ravenclaw can't loose this game! We don't have a replacement chaser, or captain. We'd have to forfeit it!" Mack looked at McKinneyt, hoping that he'd have some kind of heart in him to let him play in it. He couldn't miss it. He just couldn't. He had to make McKinney see that. Somehow... Mack knew that he probably deserved it. But he didn't want to think of that right now. He needed to be able to play.

. "Sorry." he sighed, "I don't wanna do this but I have to. And don't even think about not turning up, Stone, or you will be in deep, deep trouble." Brent half-heartedly glared at Mack. "Remember: the choir room, this Saturday, 1 o'clock. Be there; no more arguments." Brent was putting his foot down now, he wasn't going to listen if Mack tried to convince him to change his mind again. It would be worth it knowing that Mack had learnt his lesson this time.[/ul]
