Keith scowled down at his dog. He was screwed. There was no way he would be allowed to keep Dan, for sentimental reasons Keith hadn't been able to let him go but if he wasn't careful Dan would lead Keith straight out of a job and Keith, however annoying it was at times, liked his job.
Due to some ridiculous personal reason Nadia's father, Cormac, refused to look after Dan anymore, apparently there was an issue with...biting.
Keith had a pfft moment at that, despite his nosy nature Dan was a perfectly good boy in Keith's eyes...at times.
In the greenhouses was not one of those times.
"DAN!"
The aforementioned mutt barked excitedly wagging his tail and bounding about Greenhouse Two.

smiled. That had to be Keith's dog; how else would he know it's name? "I didn't know we were allowed to keep dogs here as pets, Blackwood." Brent said coolly, trying to conceal his automatic smirk. Except he did know that or he'd have a dog with him here now. [/ul]

Shit.
Of all people Keith just had to be faced with his worst "enemy" when with his troublesome dog, potential blackmail material against him.
Keith groaned, then snarled.
"Shut it McKinney."
Just then though Dan stopped bounding about and nuzzled into Brent's leg. Traitor, thought Keith.

Keith scowled. He did a lot of that in Brent McKinney's presence.
"Well, what do you want McKinney? Desperate pleas to not tell, a childish tantrum about how you're a meanie, galleons?" Keith spat galleons like it was a curse, he was willing to give a few galleons here and there for Dan, money was no object really, but his job meant more, and knowing Brent McKinney there was more that he wanted. Money was too simple, too materialistic.
Keith wondered if Brent was idiotic enough or not to take money and leave, or if he was going to be smart, make Keith participate in a humiliating stunt and keep the information. Either way Keith had his wand at the ready to Obliviate the other Professor, there was a rule or something about not attacking other Professors but Keith reasoned that there had to be a clause about losing your job.

of my marking: homework, classwork, whatever until the end of the school year. If you mess up or refuse then, well, I might just let your little secret slip out..." Given the amount of things going on in Brent's life right now, he would be glad to have a little more time on his hands to deal with things. Assuming Keith agreed, that is.[/ul]

Keith tried desperately not to look shocked. Of all the things! Inwardly Keith was pleased, there were worse things to do than double marking for the whole year, he hoped that his elation didn't show though.
Trying to look discreet Keith stowed away his wand, even if he did try and Obliviate Brent in the end there'd always be some sort of serious repercussion that would affect him some way, Keith was nothing but cautious.
"So...your marking, my opinions?"
Keith didn't care to elaborate, he was fast losing his patience, he simply wanted to lock away Dan somewhere and take a nap.

Keith pinched the bridge of his nose. Early in the morning was not a good time to converse with Brent McKinney, at least in Keith's opinion.
"Idiotic? What do you take me for? Nevermind forget I asked. DAN!"
The dog trotted obediently to its master, which thoroughly pleased Keith. He was just about to dash when Keith thought he noticed something...off. Keith, hellbent on just leaving willed his legs to move, but the traitorous beings they were refused to.
"Having trouble McKinney?"

Keith turned around at the sound of annoyance coming from Brent, that was what he liked. Annoyance. Keith always, weirdly, got a kick out of annoying people, he didn't really understand why but he did.
"Why, McKinney I thought we were all friends here." Keith placed a hand over his heart in mock hurt. "Trouble in paradise with the wife?" Keith snickered at his addition, he had no bloody idea what was bothering Brent but he was prepared to milk it for all it was worth. He couldn't give a damn about "feelings", he wasn't heartless but he didn't care much for Brent.

-wife. Brent thought to himself, correcting Keith in his head. Fortunately he had enough sense to keep that to himself. Brent wasn't looking forward to what Keith would say when he did find out about what Brent had done to Maryn with Chase because he was going to find out one way or another, a lot of people were. Just not yet. At least Brent hoped not. It took an awful lot of self control for Brent not to start shouting but, thank Merlin, he just about managed it. "Oh, of course." Brent sneered, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "No." Technically is wasn't a lie seeing as Brent no longer had a wife but he still had the feeling it wasn't a good enough defence. What else was he supposed to say though? Brent almost facepalmed. There was lots of other less suspicious things but it was too late now...[/ul]

Overcome with a strange desire to do something spontaneous Keith lunged forward and swung his arm around Brent's shoulders with what would seem friendliness.
"No one can lie to the Keithster. No wait. That's a pathetic name, K-Monster?"
Throughout the year Keith had undergone what he had labelled as "a change of heart", admittedly he still hated the unknown and was uncomfortable with strangers but under mass urging from everyone he cared about he had warmed up to being sociable. He had always attained his difference from everything else but it was used less coldly.

It soon sunk in to Keith what he had just done, then as if he had been whipped Keith withdrew his arm.
"I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?"
His momentary lapse with insanity over Keith returned to the real world.
"Of course you aren't, those aren't even proper excuses for names. However you are lying to me, Keith."
Keith shuddered at fact that he had actually considered calling himself those names, joking or not he felt horrified.
