Mack was really tired. It had been a long day, but he was forcing himself to stay up a bit longer. He really wanted to read the rest of the muggle book his sister sent him. Mack loved reading muggle books. They were much more interesting than any wizarding book. Apart from when he wanted to look up on some spells.
So he curled up in a blanket in an armchair by the fire. He didn't care that most people were with others. He sometimes liked to just read by himself. Something most Ravenclaws understood, but others didn't. Mack was fine with it. Although sometimes it felt nice to have someone to talk to. He wished Dria was in his house instead of Slytherin.
Mack contemplated writing a letter to his sister now. Like he did every week. But he wanted to tell her how he liked the book she sent. Which involved reading another 50 pages or so. That wouldn't take him exceedingly long. He'd just write her letter tomorrow instead. It wouldn't be that big of a deal. He'd explain in the letter.
Looking around, Mack noticed that the Common room wasn't too full. He wondered where everyone was tonight. Then he figured everyone was in the library.

Bryley, having always been a loner the majority of her life, tended to spend most of her time with her nose in some sort of educational book. Whether it be "Charms and Other Magical Spells" or "Wizards, Trolls, Unicorns and More" she always had her mind set on learning something new.
She used to only focus on work to impress her parents with her marks, but she soon learned she enjoyed working and learning without her parents urging. Sitting in a chair stationed at a small table in the common room she flipped through pages in her Charms book in a hurry to answer all questions on her assignment.
Upon looking up, Bryley saw the usual people who tended to stay behind in the common room. One in particular, a boy, she saw in the common room a lot. Bryley debated on finishing her work, or going to see if she could possibly make friends.
She found herself involuntarily staring at the boy in the chair while she debated in her head.

Mack had that weird feeling that someone was watching him as he read. It was one of those things that he didn't know why, yet he felt like there was someone... Peeking his head out of his book he looked around a bit. He found a younger girl looking at him. She wasn't too far from him.
Mack decided to be nice and smile at her. Inviting her over to come talk if she wanted to. But if she didn't, that was fine too. It didn't really matter to Mack, but he hated being mean to someone. He'd talk to her. It wouldn't kill him or anything like that. The girl looked at least a couple years younger than he. Mack had never really cared about age. Especially considering his girlfriend was a forth year. That would be hypocritical of him to not even want to talk to someone younger if he had a younger girlfriend.

Bryleys thoughts were interupted by his invite to come sit by him. 'He had smiled at her...So that must mean he's nice.' she concluded in her head. A few seconds hesitation, and she took him up on his offer.
She closed her books, and left them at the small table. Bryley didn't believe anyone would bother her things, after all, the table was still in sight, so she wasn't worried about losing her work and books.
Bryley took a seat in the arm chair a little to the side of the one the boy was sitting in. She thought she had heard his name mentioned sometime or another, then thought it sad she didn't take the time to learn her fellow RavenClaw's names.
Speaking softly, as she always did, she said, "Hey.. My names Bryley..." and ended her statement with a small, shy smile. She now noticed the boys age, he must be much older than her. She didn't want to be a bother to him.

Mack wasn't really surprised, but was happy when she came over and introduced herself. Mack stuck out his hand as she finished. Saying his own name in reply. "I'm Mackenzie. But you can just call me Mack. I've always thought Mackenzie sounded like a girls name more than a guys." Mack laughed. One thing about his personality was that he was never afraid of talking to anyone.
"Its night to meet you, Bryley." He said with a smile. making sure she knew he wasn't going to like, attack, bite, or something like that. Mack was nice as long as no one pissed him off. Which did tend to happen quite a bit.
"What year are you in? I'm in sixth. Captain of the quidditch team." Mack smiled. He loved being able to put that title onto his name. He loved the position, he loved quidditch.

Bryley shook Macks hand when he offered it to her, trying to keep her happiness to a minimum having made what seemed like a new friend. She tried to play it cool, calm. No reason to act overly happy about friending someone.
"Pleasure to meet you, Mack. I'm in my fourth year. Qudditch Captian sounds like a fun spot to fill." she said with a hint of sadness in her voice. Bryley wanted to watch quidditch, hang out with friends, do fun things, but her parents forbid such things.
"School work first! There is no second and third!" she recalled her mother saying to her. She didn't think her parents actions and attitude towards her to be unfair, at times, she was happy to have the excuse of school work to get away from people she tended not to like too well.
Bryley noticed the book that Mack had, had before. "What is it that you're reading?" she questioned, gesturing towards his book.

"Quidditch is a blast. I was always a little jock in the muggle world. I played almost every sport." Mack told her. It was true. Mack had always played some kind of sport when he was little. At all times. He loved it because his little sister was always his number one fan.
"Oh. Er. It's a.. a muggle book." Mack stuttered a bit. Normally he tried to hide the fact that he was a muggleborn and that he still had a few muggle traits. "It's a book my sister was reading in class and loved. Called The Great Gatsby. She wanted me to read it and tell me what I thought." Mack wasn't ashamed of being a muggleborn or anything, but sometimes it made him stick out like a sore thumb in the wizarding world. He sometimes hated it. But he wasn't ashamed.

"You've been to the Muggle World? I haven't, my Mother and Father don't approve. What kinds of sports do they have there?" She questioned him. The Muggle World is one thing she wanted to know more about, but never seemed to be able to learn. "I've never read a Muggle book either... is it good?" She wondered, though thought it was obvious due to the fact he was reading a Muggle book and had been to the Muggle World, if he was a Muggle-Born. If he was, would she think differently of him? Bryley doubted she would, but left well enough alone and settled for not asking. Bryley's thoughts ended when the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher bid both of them good evening. She turned to the Professor saying, "Good evening to you too." and returned a smile.

Mack wasn't happy to see that McKinney had come over to them to talk. He had seen McKinney around the common room quite a bit, talking with various people. It was probably something he did when he had nothing better to do, which was probably a lot for someone like him.
"Come to ruin my life even more?" Mack asked him with a sneer. He was still pissed off with him for making him sit out a quidditch game.
Mack turned to look at Bryley with a warm smile. "I have been in the muggle world. I was born in it." Mack chuckled a bit. "I'm a muggleborn, actually." Mack left his smile on his face, even though it wanted to falter. She was obviously a pureblood. Would she accept him?
"I enjoy muggle books, actually. I have quite a few of them if you'd like to borrow one or two and try them. You wouldn't have to tell your parents." Mack smiled again.

Bryley glanced at the two, sensing the obvious tension between them. What had happened? She'd ask Mack later... Her thoughts were confirmed by Mack, he was indeed a Muggle-Born. Did she think differently of him? Of course not, nothing had changed. She returned a smile. She was delighted that he was kind enough to offer her to borrow a book of his or two. "I'd love to have a chance to read one of your books, I definitely won't tell my parents." she laughed. She tried to not look over to the DADA teacher for Macks sake. Bryley had questions for Mack, but she thought it'd be rude to ask so many, and settled for asking one question of him, for conversations sake. "Have you ever attended a Muggle school?" she asked. She debated wanting to take back her question.. Maybe it was a little rude to ask? She didn't know.
