Scorpius glared.
It wasn't in his best interests to glare at people and he usually refrained but he couldn't help it.
This girl was so damn irritating.
"So aconi whatsit is the same as monkshood?"
Scorpius clenched his teeth and gritted out forcefully, "aconite and monkshood are the same plant, so is wolfsbane."
The girl sitting beside him flipped over multiple pages of a book trying to find more about wolfsbane.
"Wait a second wolfsbane isn't -"
Scorpius cut her off before he got even more irritated, tutoring was usually tedious but it was even more irritating when people were horrible at Potions.
"Yes, yes, it is, now please clear out, it's past our allocated tutoring time."
Scorpius felt a pang of remorse and satisfaction simultaneously as a flash of hurt crossed over the girl's eyes only to be replaced by fierce determination.
"Fine."
Stomping off Scorpius felt reminiscent of his last girlfriend, he really did get around...thinking of getting around Scorpius straightened up as he noticed a pretty little redhead in one of the aisles.
Standing up from his spot Scorpius sported a smug smirk as he sauntered over to the aisle.
"Well hello lovely."

Lily had been looking for a book. Nothing in particular, but she wanted something new to read. She had read all of the books in her dormitory several times and decided that she needed a nice change of texture. She didn't know what she wanted to read though, all she knew was she wanted it to be interesting. Which could be hard...
She had just grabbed several books off the shelf to take over to a table. She was going to read a couple pages of each and see if she wanted to check any of them out. When she turned around she was greeted by a blond Ravenclaw in a rather weird way. 'Well hello lovely'
Lily was so startled that all the books fell out of her hands and made a big bang on the floor in front of her. His face was just one that made her feel embarrassed by looking at it. She could feel her cheeks become warm from her blushing. ...Just Great....
"Er... Hi." Lily mumbled shyly before bending down to pick up the books that she had dropped. Her brother's words were echoing in her mind. 'It's time to break out of your shell lil sis.' Maybe this was time to get out there and make a new friend.

Scorpius leaned down to grab the books, he was faster than Lily for sure, holding up the books in the air he looked down and grinned.
"Oh sorry, is this yours?"
His initial plan was to hold it up in the air until the girl got tired, but somehow Scorpius found himself holding the book just in front of him expectantly.
"Err here."

When Lily went down to pick up the books, she noticed that the boy was already picking them up for her. Her cheeks felt like they could start a fire right now. Lily really didn't talk to many people, and when she did, they weren't boys normally.
Lily was kind of confused at first, though. When he originally grabbed the books, he held them in the air and grinned down at Lily, but then the books just kind of made their way down. Lily grabbed them from him, making sure not to make any contact or anything.
Time to break outta your shell. The words echoed in her mind as she muttered "Thanks," to the boy. This was her chance.
"My name is Lily." She told him, purposely not telling him her last name to save the 'You're a Potter!' thing that she always had to go through. "Third year Gryffindor. And yourself?" She put a smile on her face, it wasn't completely forced, actually.

Lily. Lily, Lily, Lily. Scorpius tried to recall any Lilys that he knew, there was a Lily Potter that vaguely flashed in his mind but Scorpius decided that any Potter would reveal there last names too, caught up in their fame and glory. (He had been influenced greatly by his father in his younger years in regards to the Potters.)
"Scorpius, Scorpius Malfoy, fifth year Ravenclaw."
There and then Scorpius decided not to pursue the girl, there was something about her, something he couldn't exactly pinpoint and he wanted to find out what that something was.

Lily's eyes became wide as he told her who he was. He was a Malfoy.... Scorpius Malfoy. The son of the guy that her father had just told her he liked. Well this would be awkward if he knew that. But the way her dad had said it made her think that even Draco Malfoy didn't know anything about it. Either way, Lily really didn't want to give away that she was a Potter now.
"So... uh. What did you want?" Lily laughed. Kind of forgetting at first that it was he that had come over to her. There had to have been something he wanted. Wasn't there? It wouldn't make sense otherwise. No normal person would just go over to a random person for no apparent reason.

Scorpius felt the imperative need to bang his head against a wall, a lot. Instantly he was reminded of the time, no he couldn't reminiscence about past events too much, lest he end up like his father.
On the spot Scorpius thought up a quick lie, there was a fifty fifty shot that Lily would bite the bullet.
"I was recently informed by Professor McKinney that a Gryffindor student in third year needed tutoring in Defense Against the Dark Arts, he didn't give any specifics however, he did look quite distraught so no blame is put. And you're a Gryffindor so there was a chance..." Scorpius trailed off at that, sure there was nothing else to say.
Scorpius was lying about Professor McKinney asking him to do anything of course, however he wasn't lying about the Professor being "distraught." In Scorpius' opinion distraught was too little a word to describe Professor McKinney, a better word, well two words really, would be like shit. Scorpius couldn't put it in a nicer way, however he did feel a tiny bit of sympathy for the man, Scorpius' appraisal for the man had vastly accelerated since the clash between his father and Professor McKinney. To Scorpius, anyone his father hated he was friends with. Which was basically the entire human population, disregarding his grandmother. But even Narcissa Malfoy, the woman who had raised Draco Malfoy could grate on the head of the Malfoy's nerves.

After listening intently the entire time, Lily had come to a conclusion. And she was going to voice this one instead of keeping it in. She was going to listen to her brother. She was going to break out of her shell no matter what that meant.
"That... is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard." Lily laughed. She wanted to know why he was lying to her. What was the real reason he had came over to her... there had to be one. He was obviously lying. Like any normal person would go to some random person to see if they were the one their teacher had mention about needing tutoring.
"And don't worry. I don't need tutoring. I get perfect grades." Lily decided to add. Just in case he tried to continue the whole tutoring excuse. Even though it was obviously a lie.

Scorpius shrugged. If one lie didn't work, another one would be better.
"Good girl, very perceptive. The real reason I came to talk to you was that according to my sister I'm rather "unpleasant"," Scorpius paused to add air quotation marks to emphasize. "Apparently I need to up my level of pleasantry, she asked me to start with the third years since that's her year group."
Scorpius knew that particular lie was more convincing, if Lily ever asked Scorpius had plenty of blackmail material on his sister, perks of being her big brother for thirteen years. If Lily was suspicious with that Scorpius resigned himself to tell the half truth, if only out of sheer half respect for seeing through a lie.

Lily's eyes squinted. It still didn't seem like the truth. Lily was good at telling if someone was lying or not. She could tell that he was lying again. Why was this boy a compulsive liar? At least... to Lily it seemed like he was.
"Why don't you try again. I somehow still don't believe you very well." Lily smiled and laughed at the Ravenclaw before her. What was this about anyways? Why did he think it was important to lie to her about why he came over in the first place. It didn't make sense to her. And if he really didn't want to talk to her or something, why not just walk away? Makes sense to her. Right? Whenever she doesn't want to talk, she'll hide from everyone. She'll go to her secret little place. The one her dad told her about.

Scorpius resisted the urge to grin in return, Lily seemed clever enough, he idly wondered why she wasn't sorted into Ravenclaw or Slytherin.
"Clever. I was finishing up my homework when I caught sight of a lovely lady by the bookshelves and I thought to myself, why is a girl of that caliber in a dusty old library?"
Flattery. Scorpius hated to use it but sometimes it was necessary, or just amusing. Then was one of those times, he waited in anticipation for her reply, it had been simply too long since he had a proper spar with anyone who was willing to challenge him.

Lily wished she hadn't asked. She should have just accepted the lie. Now her cheeks were blushing a bright red and she was going back into her shell. Not to mention this was the son of the man her father liked. That couldn't be good.
"Oh." Lily said as she looked away in fear he'd see her blushing. "Well... er. Thanks. I guess. But...I'm not of any caliber. I'm just me. Lily Potter..." Wait, what. Did I just tell him my last name? I had been so good so far. Lily was mentally abusing herself. She hated when people knew who she was. It was one of the reasons she was so shy. Yet she was so busy blushing at what he had said that she didn't think of what she was saying. Ah, Hell.

Scorpius tapped his index finger on his chin as if thinking carefully.
"I might have to disagree with you there, not that you're not a Potter, but the fact that you don't think yourself in high enough regard."
Scorpius felt completely cheesy speaking the last words he'd said, but it was something that he had been brought up to learn and abide by: always with the flattery. It never hurt and could be potentially helpful in the long run.

Lily smiled shyly as she listened to what the Malfoy was saying. He was incredibly sweet. Why did his uncle warn him not to get to close to him or talk to him in any way at all? He didn't seem bad. He was nice.
"Er. Thanks... I'm not too good on the... self confidence side of myself." Lily smiled sadly at him. Admitting to something she normally would never tell anyone, not even her dad. Her brothers knew. They saw it when she came here to Hogwarts. When she was at home with her family she was a completely different person.
"You're... not bad yourself you know. Completely not what I would have thought a Malfoy was after all the stories I heard of your dad and mine." Minus the part about my dad liking yours... of course. Lily thought that should be kept out of this situation.

Scorpius observed Lily with curiosity, she was different than he had been brought up to believe to be.
According to his mother any child of Harry Potter would with a doubt be conceited beyond measure (strangely enough his father hadn't commented on that). But Lily was going against that belief, Scorpius knew there might be a slight chance that she was faking it but with a copious amount of thought he shrugged it off, what would she gain from acting modest?
"Ahh the old words of mouth." After much pondering Scorpius continued, "you know something Lily? Everyone reckons my father told me of the world, taught me to hate mudbloods, and those with impure blood, but you know what? They're wrong."
Scorpius didn't know why he was imparting information he hadn't told anyone to someone he had just properly met a few minutes ago, but it just felt so relieving to tell someone for once, and let someone know his father wasn't the "bad guy".
