Chase hated giving detentions, honestly. He had given three in one night. The night he had been in a foil mood. He had later asked Brent what to do. He suggest not putting the two that had gotten in trouble with each other together, but put one of the boys with the girl that was caught out of bed. So Chase had messaged the girl that was in his own house and one of the Claw boys via owl that morning to tell them to meet in the Choir room after their classes were over and before dinner. Chase wasn't planning on having them stay exceedingly long. Just... a little while. He felt bad about giving the detentions.
He went a bit early so he could wait for the students. When they finally arrived, he explained that they were to sort the music by alphabetical order. And that he'd be back when he thought they'd been doing it long enough. Then he left them. He didn't need to supervise them.

Rayne hadn't believed her luck the other night when she got caught out of bed. She had needed to go for a walk. She needed to go and get her mind off of Phoenix. Off the kiss. Off everything. She couldn't even do that though, because she was caught. By her head of house. She didn't even fight it. She was feeling too horrible to fight it. She didn't care. It wasn't important.
When she walked in the choir room after getting the note in the morning to find Chase and the guy she was sharing detention with, she thought she was going to die. It just had to be Phoenix... There were a lot of people in this school, and she was put with Phoenix.
Normally she would be ecstatic that it was him. If it weren't for the lake incident. If it wasn't for the fact he had admitted to liking her and then kissed her and she had ran away like some stupid little girl. She liked him back. She knew that for sure now, but it was pointless. She had probably blown her shot. She didn't know what to do about it, but she had a feeling this was going to be an exceedingly awkward detention. She mumbled a "Yessir."
[/b] When Chase told them what they were going to be doing. It wasn't too hard. But they'd have to work together to organize them more than likely. When Chase left, Rayne turned to Phoenix. Not directly looking him in the eyes. She was too ashamed of what she did. "Hi, Phoenix..."[/b] She wanted more than anything to give him a hug. To call him Nyxie. To tell him she was stupid and to kiss him like he had kissed her by the lake. But she couldn't. He probably hated her right now. [/blockquote]

When professor Chase informed Phoenix on what he'd be doing for detention he supposed that it wasn't too bad. Sorting music may seem like a chore to other kids but to a musically-inclined teen it certainly beat most things. That was until he saw who he was going to be doing it with...
Of all the students at Hogwarts... Rayne. The very girl that the boy had been avoiding this past week as if she were the plague. He hadn't even gone to the classes that they shared for fear of seeing her - he wasn't ready. When Rayne entered the room he quickly snapped his gaze at Chase, the guy couldn't be serious, could he? But then this was all a terrible coincidence.
"Hey, Rayne." Phoenix mumbled. He didn't look up at her. He wasn't even facing her. He was sat on the floor hunched over a pile of sheet music, flicking through it aimlessly. "How's classes been?" The guy thought that he could at least be cordial with her. He was, after all, hoping they could be friends again.
Phoenix glanced over his shoulder at her for a moment. And wished he hadn't. Seeing her made him feel like something just stabbed him in the gut. He snapped his head around and licking his thumb and forefinger, quickling shuffling the papers and sorting them by letter. "I see you've got detention again."

Rayne just really couldn't believe her luck. Here she was, in detention yet again with a man that had kissed her not even a week ago. A man she liked... but couldn't tell him. Life just wasn't fair. Life kind of seemed like it wanted to stab Rayne in the back right now.
Rayne didn't look at him as she talked. She simply did what he was doing and grabbed a stack of music sheets before sorting them by letter."You would have known if you hadn't skipped out on the two classes we have with each other just to avoid me..."
[/b] Rayne was a bit bitter about Phoenix basically avoiding him all week. It was rather ridiculous. No matter what Rayne had done, it wasn't something to hide from. She wasn't mad or anything. She had actually wanted to talk to him all week, but she could never find him. So she deduced that he didn't like him anymore. That maybe he had just gotten caught up in the moment and was now regretting what he did. "Yeah. i got caught out past curfew again... I needed time to think and my room mates were being loud."[/b] Rayne had gotten pissed and walked out without thinking about anything else. Especially that it was way past curfew. Why the other girls were so loud at that time, she'll never know. "What about you... how've you been?"[/b] She couldn't look at him... she tried to force herself to. But she just couldn't. Phoenix chewed his cheek to stop himself from replying to her observation that he hadn't been attending the classes they shared. He wanted desperately to just go: "Well, what did you expect?" Phoenix knew that had he gone to class, he wouldn't of paid any attention whatsoever. He probably would of just sat there, looking at Rayne and then looking away any time she made any movement to glance in his direction.
"Things could be better... I got detention, didn't I?" Phoenix muttered, sifting through the papers with a faint rustle. As he was looking he was mentally taking note of ones that he wouldn't mind trying out when he came to warm up before practicing any. "I was out with Mack, getting a snack, and we got caught." He gave a heavy shrug of his shoulders and got back to his work.
This was cruel. Here he was, forced to do some mundane task, with Rayne as company. Just like how they had first met. It was like fate was taunting him, rubbing salt into his still raw wounds. He wanted badly to just leave and disappear off into his dorm but... he couldn't pass up this opportunity to patch things up with her. "I was planning to go back to class on Monday. I haven't been feeling too good lately. Mack's been keeping me up to date with class notes."

Rayne hated this. They were trying to make civil conversations when things were clearly turning out to be completely awkward. She didn't want to ask him trivial things like what she was right now. She wanted to laugh with him. Joke with him. Sing The Academy Is... with him even though she sucked at singing. She wished she would have never been stupid enough to go into the water. Then she wouldn't have almost drowned and Phoenix wouldn't have saved her and had the impulse to kiss her. He clearly didn't really like her... right?
Rayne felt like she needed to talk to him about it. Whatever happened at the lake was confusing her, and Rayne hated being confused. She didn't know how this was going to turn out, but it wouldn't hurt to talk about it... right?
"N-Nyxie?"
[/b] She used her nickname for him and turned to look at him for the first time, with pain in her eyes. He was cute. His brown locks that seemed to enclose his face worked perfectly for his face. But he didn't look right, because he didn't look happy. "I-I think w-we need to t-talk."[/b] She stuttered. Unsure of herself. Unsure she actually wanted to talk about this, but knew they had to. "About what happened at the lake."[/b] [/blockquote]

Phoenix froze when he heard Rayne stutter the nickname she had for him. He didn't dare look up. He didn't want to see the face she was looking at him with. He heard enough in her voice. The teen snapped his head up though when Rayne said that they needed to talk. He didn't like the sound of that.
"T-Talk? If there's nothing to talk about, Ray. It was a mistake. It... It shouldn't of happened." Phoenix spoke in rapid fire of words, he almost tripped on his tongue with the speed he spoke. "You had just nearly drowned. I was stupid. I really shouldn't have. I just... Can't we.... forget?"
Phoenix glanced up at Rayne with a slightly startled expression. She had certainly caught him off guard. The teen scrambled up to his feet - he thought he deserved a break, he had gotten through quite alot of the sheet music already. "Break." He mumbled before scampering off to a corner and away, grabbing a guitar while he did and tuning it. He sat hunched against the wall on his butt, his body angled away from Rayne. "It was a moment thing, I guess."

That was the biggest load of crap Rayne had ever heard. The nothing the talk about part. Rayne had been afraid of the impulsive thing. His words rang in her ears. It was a mistake...It shouldn't of happened. They kept playing over and over again. She felt the need to break down crying... Btu she couldn't. She couldn't let him know he cared. "Right... a moment thing."
[/b] She said, just flipping through the sheet music, not even sorting them anymore. How did Rayne tell him that she wanted to turn back time and do it over again. She wanted to stay in his arms and kiss him back when he had kissed her. Not run away like some scared little girl. She hadn't wanted to ruin things between them, but it seemed like they were ruined anyways. She hadn't thought about that. "Remember when you promised to sing for me?"[/b] She asked before putting the music down and walking over to him. Sitting down next to him on the side he was turned toward. "Play for me, Nyxie?"[/b] She asked, trying to look in his eyes even when he wasn't looking at her. She brought her knees to her chest and wrapped her hands around them. [/blockquote]

Couldn't Rayne tell that he didn't want to be near her? That he had probably gone to the other side of the room for his break for a reason? Of course she wouldn't... Phoenix sighed and strummed a few random chords to test the tuning.
He remembered with a sad pang in his gut the promise he had made to sing for the girl some time. Phoenix guessed now would be alright. As soon as he nodded that he would, a song popped into his head. Phoenix peered at the fretboard for a moment, trying to remember the correct chords and fell back against the wall.
"And I'd give up forever to touch you 'cause I know that you feel me somehow.... You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be and I don't wanna go home right now... And all I could taste is this moment and all I can breath is your life and sooner or later it's over... I just don't wanna miss you tonight..." At some point, Phoenix had closed his eyes while he sang. He loved playing songs, even if they were just covers to songs he could relate to. It made everything seem to melt away into a blissful nothing. No pain, no hurt, no tears, no worries.
"And I don't want the world to see me 'cause I don't think that they'd understand.... When everything's made to be broken... I just want you to know who I am..." Phoenix let the last strummed chord fade slowly away and inhaled deeply, letting the air escape his lungs in a long breath. He opened his eyes and looked at Rayne for all but a moment before looking down. Phoenix swallowed and lay the guitar down on the floor beside him. "Rayne... why did you run away? I understand if its because you didn't want that... I just need to hear it from you."

Rayne was glad when Phoenix agreed to play her a song. It was the most beautiful thing in the world. Listening to him sing and play guitar. She hadn't heard the song before now, but it was amazing. Rayne thought she could listen to him sing all day long, honestly. When he closed his eyes during the song... it made her know he was passionate about his music. Rayne loved that. She smiled at him while he sang. Never wanting it to stop.
When it did though, and he looked at her but only for a second. She was afraid of what he was going to say. With the right to it seemed. He wanted to know why she was such a goddamn chicken. Why she had run away from him after the kiss. She thought about lying, but she didn't want to anymore. If by some chance what he didn't wasn't just one of those moment things... then she was going to find out. If not... well. She only hoped they could be friends still.
"I was scared, Nyxie..."
[/b] She said in a small voice. "We had a good friendship already in only the day we knew each other. It was a strong one. I didn't want to ruin it by admitting back to you that I liked you too."[/b] She took her hand and brought it up to his chin. Guiding his face upward so he'd be forced to look at her. "But I realized... that I don't care. Because I like you too. A lot Nyxie. I was stupid for running away."[/b] Rayne said in almost a whisper before closing her eyes and leaning forward. Gently touching her lips to his. "F-forgive me?'[/b] She asked him. Her face only centimeters from his still. [/blockquote]

When Rayne gently forced Phoenix's chin upwards he looked at her with slightly widened eyes. He was honestly struggling with grasping this whole situation. The poor teen had thought that Rayne never liked him by taking off the way she did and... she was now telling him the opposite?
Phoenix could almost hear his heart thudding away frantically within his ribcage, pounding at his bones like an animal desperate to escape. His mouth was dry yet he felt beads of perspiration pepper his forehead. The teen was in disbelief. But the joy that accompanied it was greater. Rayne had kissed him! Phoenix swallowed and took a deep breath in an attempt to regain a cool demeanor. It was pretty much impossible but he could try at least.
"I-Its not your fault if you got spooked." Phoenix whispered, bringing his hands up to cup her chin. "I shouldn't of been so sudden... I'm the one that's sorry." The teen closed in on those few inches that separated them. He gave Rayne a tender, gentle kiss. It wasn't a long one either. Just a short, sweet one. Like the one he had given her back at the lake. When he pulled back, he didn't go far, he stayed close enough so their noses touched and he could gaze deeply into those azure eyes he so adored.
"I thought... you didn't like me... and that was why you skittered." Phoenix muttered, his gaze flickering from eye to eye. "This last week has been terrible. I thought... I had lost you. Even as a friend."

Rayne leaned into his hands, loving the contact. She could tell his emotions were kind of everywhere. She couldn't blame him. She had acted like she didn't like him by running away. It wasn't like she meant that, but it wasn't like she had prevented his thoughts either. She had ran away.
Rayne was about to object to him apologizing before he kissed her. Causing her to close her eyes and smile. Feeling his lips on hers was one of the best things in the world. She hadn't stopped thinking about the kiss since it happened before. She couldn't get it out of her mind. "There's nothing to apologize for, Nyxie."
[/b] She moved her hand from his chin to his neck loosely. Still staying close to him. When he told her he had been afraid to loose her, she wrapped both arms around him and put her face into his neck. Holding him tight. "You haven't lost me. I'm right here, and I'm not going anywhere."[/b] She whispered to him. It was weird in her mind. How she could just meet a guy and feel this strong of a connection to him. It felt like they were meant to be together, and she wasn't just saying it. She had never had a connection to anyone as much as she had a connect to Phoenix. She lifted her head a bit to plant a kiss on the base of his jaw before snuggling into his neck. She never wanted to move. [/blockquote]

When Rayne nestled into his neck like she did, Phoenix thought his ticker was about to pop from overwork. This all just felt so right. Sixteen he may only be, but he knew this was love. He had never felt an emotion quite as strong as this one. It was overwhelming, crashing into him like waves that left him dazed, in love.
Phoenix ran his fingers through her tresses that felt like liquid silk against his skin. He rested his hand on the base of her neck and laced the other around her waist, holding her there. There, sat on the floor against the wall, with his arms threaded around the blue eyed girl that had bewitched him, Phoenix felt like the situation brushed perfection.
"And I won't let you go anywhere now." The young Claw murmured into Rayne's hair, closing his eyes and gently placing his chin on her, soaking it all in. This really did seem like some surreal dream. And if it were just that, he knew he'd never wake. He'd sleep away the hours of the day just to be how they were now.
Yet this was no dream. They were in detention. As much as Phoenix longed for this tender moment to never draw to an end, he knew there was work to be done. "Rayski... break's over." He chuckled faintly, not opening his eyes just yet. "Sooner we finish... sooner we can leave. How about a walk afterwards... just the two of us?"

Rayne didn't want to move. Ever. That was for sure. Sitting here on the floor like she was with Phoenix right now was amazing. She thought she could stay this way for the rest of her life and never grow tired of it. "Good. Because I don't want you to."
[/b] She mumbled into his neck. When he mentioned how their break was over... well. Rayne didn't want to move. It was unfair. Couldn't they just stay like this for their detention? It was just Chase giving it... surely he wouldn't be too hard on them. It was Chase. He was such a push over that Rayne didn't even think it was funny anymore, but it worked to the student's benefits. "Do we have to go back to sorting music?"[/b] She asked him with a slight whine. "And I'd love that."[/b] She felt a tingle in her heart. She wanted to be alone with Phoenix without them being in a detention, and without her drowning. Was that possible? "A lot."[/b] [/blockquote]

"You know that we have to carry on, Rayski." Phoenix purred, affectionately raking his slender fingers through her tresses, watching with tender eyes how they slipped through them like waterfalls of silk. "Like I said before... sooner we finish, sooner we can leave." And Phoenix didn't want to risk Chase being in a bad mood when he returned. If he was feeling merry, maybe he'd let them off the hook but if he was feeling anything less than that... Phoenix didn't fancy another detention. If he were to be dealt another by professor Jackson he was sure the man would make sure it was sans Rayne.
"I'll play you another song if you promise to get back to sorting music with me?" Phoenix grinned, pressing his cheek gingerly against her head for a moment. Her hair was so soft, it was like heaven to his weary skin. The teen would love nothing more than to continue in their embrace but it wasn't advisable. Especially when a teacher was to interrupt at any given moment. Phoenix gently pulled away, reluctance shone clear in his body language - it was awkward and too slow. He plucked the same acoustic from before and placed in it his lap, just where Rayne had been a few moments before. "How about it?"
