Brent almost laughed at himself. Well, who else was he going to write a lovey-dovey song for? How about Maryn? Your wife? That wiped the grin off of Brent's face. He stopped thinking, -because thinking was rubbish, thinking was for idiots- and started fully concentrating on finishing up Always. Brent strummed Charlie and belted out the chorus as it was only him in the Choir Room again. "It was always you, fallin' for me, Now there's always time, callin' for me, I'm the light, blinkin' at the end of the road, Blink back to let me know..."[/ul]

to comment on their stuck up accents it had just slipped out. Tommy saw the doors to the Choir Room coming up and made a dash for them, hoping to get in there before the Snakes turned the corner and noticed where he'd gone. Tommy slammed the doors to the Choir Room shut behind him and punched his fist in the air victoriously. They wouldn't think to look in here and... "Proffie M!" Tommy exclaimed, rushing over to his favourite professor who was alone in here with his guitar and was... singing... "I hope I wasn't disturbing you or whatever I was just escaping from these Slytherins who I accidentally on purpose annoyed then they were like 'AHHH WE'RE GONNA KILL YOU, ELLIS' and I ran in here to hide." Tommy grinned then took in a deep breath. Talking so much after running for a while was tiring.[/ul]

awesome. "Then.. then.. I could prove to Lucy that I'm not the only person that appreciates the greatness of dinosaurs! She says that she doesn't even believe that dinosaurs ever existed! How stupid is that? Can you even believe that? It's mad!" Tommy continued after pausing so he didn't run out of breath. He knew that he'd been rambling and asking too many questions but he usually did that, he just hoped that Proffie M wouldn't get annoyed with him like everyone else did. Tommy ran over to his professor and clutched his arm, pouting as he asked for a song one last time. "Please, Professor McKinney? Pretty please?"[/ul]

Brent just about caught what the young Gryffindor was going on about though. "Um, yeah, I was. I guess I could... Just give me until after Valentine's Day though, because I need to get this song finished for then." Brent frowned a little, "Who's Lucy? Your sister? But, yeah, that is stupid and mad. There's loads of proof that dinosaurs existed. So you tell Lucy that I say dinosaurs definitely existed, Tommy." This kid was so adorably odd. Usually if someone rambled on to him while he was trying to do something else, Brent would lose his temper but he couldn't with Tommy. Because, well, he was just Tommy. "I promise I'll write you your song about dinosaurs, even if it does take me a few days." he smiled, chuckling again. Brent guessed that Tommy probably had an obsesssion with dinosaurs. It made him think of Chase, and his obsession with animals. Brent rolled his eyes a little at his thought.[/ul]

! "Noooo! Lucy's not my sister, she's my social worker at the care home. 'Cause well, mum died just after I was born then dad went back to Nevada or something and died a few years later so, yeah, I'm an orphan now. Which it cool 'cause I can just be like 'ORPHAN POWER'!" Tommy spoke again quickly, seeing if Professor M would pick up on anything he was saying. Tommy's hand went to the letter from Clayton that was in his hoodie pocket. He could give it to his professor now... Couldn't he? Maybe he would soon... "Thanks, Professor, you're the best!!" Tommy exclaimed, giving his professor the biggest hug he could though it was hard seeing as Brent still had his guitar.[/ul]

[/ul] My dear Brent,
I'm sure that it was your little brother who gave you this letter. And I'm afraid that I don't even know the name of my youngest son, I let the hospital name him. Your mother didn't have time, she was too ill and then it was just too late.
Let me start from the beginning, Brent, it'll make more sense that way and I'm sure you're confused right now.
Your mother and I, we never told you that she was pregnant. We led you to believe she was simply ill and I apologise for this; we just didn't know how you would react. Brent, all three of us know how unpredictable you were as a teenager. I hope that now you are an adult reading this, not that same child.
Just a few weeks after you 'left' us, your mother gave birth to another son, your little brother. He also has a letter written from me to him about this. You both deserve to know what happened. As a mentioned previously, she passed away shortly after. I felt unable to care for my son. My heart was broken; my eldest son had left me; the love of my life was dead. With great difficulty, I gave away my baby boy and went back home to Nevada.
You have a brother, Brent. Don't push him away. Don't do what you did to us.
Brent, I don't know if we'll ever meet again but let me tell you this: whatever you do or say I will always love you, son.
Your father,
Clayton McKinney

do you know that? How do you know my dad's name? And I'm know for a fact that I'm not an orpan!" he shouted, clearly confused and having no idea what was going on right now. Swalling the lump in his throat, Brent glanced down at the letter now in his hand and slowly opened it, not sure if he really wanted to read it but doing so anyway. Brent recognised the handwriting immediatly and bit down hard on his lip. It couldn't be... No. But it was, it was Clayton's handwriting; his father's handwriting. Trying to stay composed and not just fall apart right there and then, Brent read the whole of Clayton's letter. "I... I think I need to sit down.." he managed to choke out, really feeling like he was about to throw up now. Brent took a seat on the nearby piano stool and put his head in his shaking hands. Not knowing what to say, what to think, what to do. Brent looked up and stared blankly at Tommy. His brother. His little brother. "Oh my God." he whispered, everything sinking in, "They're dead... They're gone... It's fucking my fault. Everything's fucking my fault." Brent couldn't hold back his tears.. This was the second time this week he'd cried. Brent never usually cried. But things were different now. His friends back in Nevada had lied to him. His parents were dead. He had a little brother. He was cheating on his wife with his best friend. He'd caused this whole mess. He had no idea how to sort it.[/ul]

. "It's not your fault they're dead. If anything, I guess it's my fault for being born. If I was never born, theyd be alive, wouldn't they?" Tommy shrugged, it wasn't his fault he was born though so he wasn't going to feel guilty. "Professor... Brent... Does this mean... Does this mean that I can come and live with you now?" Tommy asked, smiling at his brother nervously, "It'd be much better than having to stay at the care home. No-one likes me there. Apart from Lucy. And you're my big brother, don't you. Please?"[/ul]

Brent still could barely even believe this it was just... Brent couldn't think straight. "I-I guess you can call me Brent then." he whispered, eventually finding his voice. This kid was his little brother... He had responsibly over him now. Tommy was supposed to look up to Brent. And how could he? Brent was nothing to be looked up to. "Don't say that. Please. Just... Shut up for once, okay?" he snapped, looking up at Tommy, a pained expression on his face. He got to his feet, absoultely horrified. "No! No way! You can't, I'm sorry!" Brent cried. There was no way on earth he was capable of looking after an eleven year old with ADHD. An eleven year old he barely even knew. An eleven year old that he had only just discovered was his brother. His last remaining family member. Brent knew who he needed right now more than anyone else. The one person that was always there when Brent needed him. "I'm.. I'm gonna see Ch- Professor Jackson." Brent said quickly, trying to keep his voice for wavering so much as he began marching out of the doors to search for Chase.[/ul]

." Tommy grinned, giggling a little. It was strange to call him Brent not Professor McKinney (well, or Proffie M). Tommy's face fell and he looked down, knowing it had been stupid of him to think Brent would say yes or even react positively to this news. "Fine..." Tommy mumbled quitely, obviously hurt by what his brother had said. "Then I'm coming with you!" he called after Brent, grabbing his arm and following his brother out.[/ul]
