Makar was curled up in a rather large and extremely plush red armchair, reading a book. The title of the book was Esio Trot, a book by Roald Dahl. Sure it was a book more suited for much younger audiences but it had been Gabbie's favorite book. In fact, she named one of her tortoises Esio Trot and another Roals Dahl. The two of them had read the book together a lot, even staying up late together to do so, but that was before she died...
"Tortoises are very backward creatures. Therefore they can only understand words that are written backwards." Makar chuckled as he read that passage out loud. "Gabbie always objected to that statement and would always complain about it but went along with it anyway..."
The teenager drew a hand through his brown hair, letting out a sad sigh as he did so. Sure, it was almost the end of the year and his adopted sister had died at the beginning of the year but he still wasn't over her. She had been his only friend and the only one in the whole wide world who understood Makar Zigy Germanotta.

Chase didn't know if he was going to be able to catch Makar in the common room. He knew it was kind of late, but Chase had kind of forgotten that he was supposed to talk to him about Gabbie killing herself. It was horrible. A tragedy. Chase wanted to make sure the sixth year was doing alright, so he wanted to check up on him.
Chase was relieved to see that Makar was in the common room, and it seemed like he was the only person in the common room, too. Which was even better. Chase put a smile on his face as he walked over to him and sat down on the couch next to his arm chair.
"Hey, Makar. Mind if I join you over here?" Chase said as he smiled widely at him, making sure he knew he wasn't in trouble or anything.

"Umm... Nope." Makar replied, quickly changing his expression to neutral and put down his book. Being an actor, it was his first instinct to rid himself of all emotions on his face when someone else would come into a room. Whether he dropped his neutral face or not depended on the person. "So... Why're you here?"
Makar actually knew why his head of house was there. It was obvious. He came to check on him and talk to him about Gabbie. Otherwise, he would come to talk to the teen about his grades or behavior but that wasn't possible in this case as Chase had first grinned at him which automatically meant it wasn't anything related to his studies. So, the final conclusion was that he was there to talk about his late adopted sister.

Chase took a deep sigh when Makar asked Chase why he was there. It was obvious this wasn't just a random drop by. That was for sure, Chase just wanted a little more tact than what he actually had, so he was upset when his face gave him away and Makar knew he was there for a reason.
"You're a smart kid. You know why I'm here." Chase said with a small smile. "The staff want to make sure you're doing alright. I want to make sure you're doing alright. It's my duty as your head of house. Plus I like you." Chase smiled, meaning it. He had Makar in his care of magical creatures class. He had Gabbie too. They were both good kids. He would have never thought that Gabbie would kill herself... it was so horrible. He wanted to turn back time and save her himself.

"I'm doing fine, thank you very much." Makar replied bluntly, not very impressed with his teacher's statements. "It's almost the same except less Gabbie and more only me. That's it."
Of course, that wasn't really the case. Makar was broken up because of her death. He was especially dreading going back home. He had always hated it but, if Gabbie was there, it made it more tolerable. However, it was kind of selfish. Gabbie usually got the worst of the abuse caused by their parents. Now, Makar got a tad bit more pain in the punches but he just didn't care anymore. His sister still probably got worse.
"I really wonder what happened... Oh wait. I know. It's because of our stupid parents." Makar thought to himself, still keeping his face neutral on the outside. "Always them.. And they can't even divorce because they want to keep up appearances...

Chase could tell he was lying. It wasn't like it would be possible for someone's sister to kill themselves and then just automatically be perfectly fine about it. No matter if she was his real sister or not. Sometimes blood siblings meant less to people than adopted or other kind of siblings.
"I'm fairly good at telling when people are lying you know. And you're clearly lying." Chase said with a sad smile. "I'm here for you to talk, Makar. I know you need to talk about it. No one knows why she killed herself. Do you have any idea?" Chase wanted to know why someone that young would want to take her own life like she did.
Chase wanted to reach out and comfort the boy that was clearly denying his own feelings, or wouldn't tell Chase at least. The whole situation was difficult and terrible.

"Well obviously I'm lying. Pfft..." Makar tried to hold in a cold, dry laugh. Might as well say things. It wasn't like he cared of the consequences of things anymore. "Of course I know why. The reason as to why my sister killed herself is horrible. Corrupt. The worst reason to take away your life. D'you wanna guess why?"
His tone was bitter and filled to the brim with mocking sarcasm. His brown eyes were as hard as stone and as cold as ice. Makar was letting out a small bit of the pain and frustration he had felt thanks to his parents and their horrible abuse. Being abused since you were 4 by your own parents isn't the best childhood to grow up in. This young teen had grew up thinking that happy families only happened in fairy tales. It wasn't really the most awesome times but what could one do?

Chase was surprised at Makar's response to him. You would think someone wouldn't be as mean as he was being to someone that was just trying to help him, but Chase wasn't going to say anything, he didn't want him to get mad and then him not get anything out of him. That would be a bad thing.
"I don't even think I could begin to guess why..." Chase mumbled with a sad look on his face. He actually could have guessed. He had wanted to kill himself when he was younger because of what his father did to him. Surely that wasn't the reason, though.
"You can trust me you know. I'm not going to tell anyone anything you don't want people knowing, and I promise I will always be there for you. No matter what." Chase told him with a serious look on his face. He meant that.

"I bet a million dollars that you could." Makar replied, his face darkening. He had always been good at noticing things and he could tell that Chase had gone through pain before. And not just any pain.. "I'm sure that you could... You know, I might as well tell you as long as you tell me... Who hurt you? Was it your dad, your mom? Or maybe it was both? Tell me and I'll tell you why Gabbie killed herself. Deal?"
Right now, the brown haired teen was just taking a shot in the dark about the abuse but he thought it was a pretty good one. What Makar was doing now was normal for him. He would always get in your personal life, something he was especially good at, and use the information for him. Usually just to fuel his own need and wanting to know. Just to know things. Yes, it was cruel but it was Makar.

Chase's eye's became wide after he heard Makar talk. Was he... being serious? He could just tell something like that? Chase thought about it for a moment. Only two people knew he was hurt as a child. Brent and Alex. He had never planned on anyone else knowing. Maybe Reid if something blurted out. He didn't care if Reid knew. He wouldn't mind. But some kid?
Was it worth it though? Chase was sent here to figure out why Gabbie had killed herself. Makar was obviously hurting somehow too. What if the reason Gabbie killed herself was the same reason Makar was hurt now. What if he was thinking about the same thing, and by confessing Chase would save him somehow.
Chase took a deep breath and closed his eyes. "My dad did. He was a drunk. Always drunk. He never seemed to put a bottle down. When he was drunk, he beat me and my mom. I'd get bruises from him. Black eyes. All my life." Chase told him with his eyes still closed. After all these years, it was still hard for him to talk about it.
