had stolen her toad and she wasn't going to take it lightly. Some people would say 'oh, it's just a toad! Grow up!' but Maryn knew there had to be a reason behind Brent stealing Ribbity II from her, she needed to get some truth from him at last. She wasn't angry that he'd taken her toad, she was angry that he hadn't sorted out the reason for taken her toad with her. "Spit it out, McKinney," she growled sternly, narrowing her eyes at her husband, "why on Earth did you steal my Ribbity II and don't just give me any old rubbish. You and I both know that I can tell whenever you lie."[/ul]

he sighed to himself, knowing he had to tell her what was on his mind but not wanting to come across as being too pushy. "You really want to know?" he asked, already guessing what her answer would be. "I feel like... there's something missing... like there's an empty space in my life that needs to be filled. I guess that I wanted to get your attention and subtly get that message to you." Brent said, his voice hesitant and lacking in the confidence it so often carried. He didn't know what Maryn was going to say to him next and really hoped that she wouldn't press him for more information. He didn't want to go into any more details, it was just too awkward for him...[/ul]

There was that annoying voice in his head again... "Maryn..." he began slowly, still gazing awkwardly at his feet, "Are we....um, are we ever gonna have any kids?" There. He'd explained it, probably not in the way Maryn may have expected him to but it was the truth and it was far better than him keeping his mouth shut. Brent had always wanted children of his own. What he desired the most was to be a father and that was a secret he had kept to himself all of his life. Right now, Brent thought that he might even be able to share it with Maryn if she had a positive answer to his question, that is. He looked up a little so he could see her reaction....[/ul]

Like she'd be able to say that, straight out. Maryn wasn't that insensitive.. she knew now she'd have to be truthful with Brent but how? How was she meant to tell him that they'd never have any children together? She never even knew that Brent was even thinking about kids, well they'd only just got married but it wouldn't be too much of a surprise of he wanted any in the future... "Do you really want children?" she asked, not answering his own question, "I mean, they're hard work..." She was trying to put him off, maybe now he'd change his mind? She wouldn't have to tell him the truth that way...[/ul]

On the whole, Brent had been expecting a positive reaction of some sort from Maryn. That was in no way positive. Maryn looked.... panicked. Now she sounded like she was trying to put him off. But why? She wasn't going to put him off though, Brent knew what he wanted and he wasn't going to change his mind; not now, not ever. "Yeah, I am sure that's what I want, it's what I've always wanted..." he sighed. He looked straight at Maryn, his voice barely more than a faint whisper, "Isn't that what you want too?" Maryn loved kids, she always got on well with them. She always got on well with everyone. Brent had no idea what this strange behaviour was all about...[/ul]

didn't want to but it was what had to be done. "Listen, Brenty, there's something you should know..." Maryn summoned up all of her courage and met his intent gaze, "Don't freak out or anything, please.... but, there's something you need to know, darling," Say it, Maryn, just say it!"Um, well, we can't ever have kids together... I can't actually have kids.. I'm sorry, Brenty.." Maryn whispered awkwardly, on the verge of tears. She knew she'd have to tell her husband at some point but hadn't expected to break the bad news this early on.[/ul]

"You didn't think to tell me this earlier?" he bellowed, his face growing red and his anger amounting to more and more by the second. "We're married now, you're meant to tell me about shit like this!" Brent began pacing the room, hot, angry tears rolling down his cheeks. "If I hadn't asked would you keep the truth hidden ftom me forever! I think you have some explaining to do, don't you?" Brent's throat was aching from screaming at the top of his lungs, but he was nowhere near finished yet...[/ul]

about telling you but I knew you'd act like this if I did, so I didn't! It would help if you calmed down a little, there's no need to be such an arse about it!" Maryn began to walk towards the door. She loved Brent, she really did, but he obviously needed time to cool off before either of them said something they shouldn't. "I don't have to explain to you, not when you're acting like this." she said a little sourly, "Merry Christmas." And with that, she slammed the door shut behind her and headed back to her own office.[/ul]
