Brent could barely read his own handwriting, the note was scruffy and rushed but Maryn should understand it. Brent just hoped that she would be awake now, because he would be surprised if she was, even if it was 3 o'clock in the morning. After Brent made a fuss over him, Ribbity II snatched the note from Brent's hand and started hopping to the Hospital Wing, leaving Brent staring at the door, trying to tell himself that he was going to do the right thing.[/ul]

been easier... Hah... Sorry..." Brent sounded pathetic and he knew it. He supposed that this wanted really so much of an urgent thing, it was more Brent wanting to confess to Maryn before he lost his bottle otherwise only Merlin knew when the next opportunity to do so would be. Sighing, and feeling sorry for both Maryn and himself for the pain he had caused them both, Brent walked forwards slowly before wrapping his arms around Maryn's waist, resting his chin gently on the top of her head. He'd forgotten how much he loved her, too busy thinking about how much he loved Chase. "I-I need to talk to you..." Brent stammered, his nerves kicking in again.[/ul]

at her? Maryn wanted to know exactly what was wrong because lately her thoughts had only been about Brent, his strange behaviour had been worried her. Maryn stared at Brent, well the back of him, not knowing whether to shout or burst into tears. I knew it.. I knew it all along... "It's Jackson isn't it?" she whispered blankly, "You've been having an affair with Jackson. And I know I'm right because I clearly remember you telling me that you were confused about him a while ago. It's been on my mind. Where you already seeing him then? Was that just some little warning that you were going to go and break my heart?" Maryn took a deep breath, trying her best not to pull out her wand and curse Brent. "Break my heart like you did to all of those other girls at school. You used them and tossed them aside then you moved on. How long until you find someone to replace Chase?" Maryn knew she was going to regret saying this, but now she didn't care. Brent deserved this.[/ul]

his fault. In fact, I know it is. But you're the one who's most to blame, I know that too." she hissed, annoyed further by the fact that Brent was trying to stick up for the man she was cheating on her with. Well, it won't be 'cheating' for much longer... said a small but fierce voice in Maryn's head. Maryn could see the guilt written all over Brent's face now that he had turned around. It made her feel bad for being so harsh with him but he really had picked the wrong time to tell her this, besides, he'd brought this upon himself. Maryn believed him. The look of absolute horror that Brent had given her was enough to convince her. Maryn knew Brent was a terrible liar. "Fine. But, still, that's a bit of an idiotic thing to tell your wife, isn't it? I've been worrying about it since you told me. Now I know that I was right to worry." Maryn glared right back at Brent who seemed to be very close to losing his temper now... "Some people never change, you've just proved that to me. Are you saying that this isn't wrong? Are you saying cheating on your wife with your 'best friend' is the right thing to do and then hiding it from her for weeks on end? Because if you'd come to me earlier then maybe, just maybe, I could still see a future for us. I can't now." There was no way Maryn could stay with Brent. He said he'd changed, she'd believed him. But now... He evidently hadn't if he hadn't gotten over his nasty habit of cheating on innocent people happily. "Of course I don't know what you've been through lately; you've barely even spoken to me! Oh, what happened? Did one of the strings on your guitar break again? Grow up, McKinney."[/ul]

his!" Brent shouted furiously after Maryn had hissed at him. He was fine with taking the blame, he knew it was his fault but Maryn blaming Chase wasn't going to do any good at all. Brent knew that, yes, that had been a bit of a stupid thing to tell Maryn but he'd thought she wouldn't react like... that. He decided not to say anything else about it though because Maryn had the upper-hand here. Instead, he just continued glaring at her. Anger over-powering the pain he was feeling, Brent clenched his fists, stopping himself from reaching for anything to throw at the wall.. Or Maryn. "I have changed! I know I have! Of course this is wrong, Maryn, I'm sorry for it all! You have to believe me!" Brent's jaw dropped. No. She didn't mean that? She couldn't... "Maryn, we can make this work. I'm sorry, you know I'm sorry! I just... I don't know if I want to be with you or Chase... I can't make that decision just yet." he pleaded, a hint of desperation in his voice that Brent wasn't going to bother trying to cover up. "I know... Talking to you seemed impossible. I felt too guilty..." Brent frowned a little before raising his voice again, "No! If you really wanna know, I found out that my parents were both liars, and that they're dead and now I have a fucking little brother! And that's on top of all of this, y'know."[/ul]

. You left them but what if you'd stayed... They could still be alive." Maryn knew how cruel she was being but it was her way of getting back at Brent for going and ruining... everything. "If I stay with you then you'll just carry on hurting me, like you've hurt everybody else. I honestly feel sorry for whoever has the displeasure of having you as an elder brother. I even feel sorry for Chase because you'll forget about him as soon as you find someone even better. "It's over. It's your fault. Next time I have to see you, I'll be Ms Lovegood. So, it looks like you don't even have to make your decision after all." And with that, Maryn left Brent's office, slamming the door behind her before letting the tears that she'd been holding back fall. There was only one person she wanted to see right now, a person she would trust with anything and everything: Minna Theoreux. [/ul]
