Rayne had been wandering the castle past hours again. Like she often liked to do. This time, however, she had been caught by a certain Ravenclaw head and Defense against the Dark Arts teacher. She couldn't believe it. She rarely ever got caught for just wandering about. Other things... however. She did get caught doing.
She had gotten a letter by owl this morning telling her where her detention would be, and that there was one other person that was going to be serving it with her. She didn't particularly care about that, but she hoped the person wasn't a complete idiot. She hated people like that, and it would probably cause her to do all the work while the other person did absolutely nothing. She'd been caught in that situation before now, and hoped this time was different.
When she got there, she saw that it was a Ravenclaw boy, in her year. She hadn't ever talked to him before, and vaguely wondered what he was doing in detention. He didn't seem like the type entirely... After Brent left, she went over to him and stuck out her hand. "I'm Rayne Skye Teagan. Rayne is fine."
[/b] She smiled softly, hoping that this guy was at least nice. [/blockquote]

Detention. Ever since meeting Mackenzie Phoenix had managed to get himself quite a couple. He disliked them greatly but never really complained. He knew he deserved them. You only got detention if you misbehaved and he had. He had let Mackenzie's less than desired behavior for a student get to him, influence his own actions greatly. That's what tended to happen to Phoenix when he had a crush on someone. He just....went along with whatever they did. Foolish, yes, but he couldn't help it.
Phoenix saw that a girl would be sharing detention with him. Something which was fine by him. On seeing her, he recognized her from class - they shared at least one subject definitely but wasn't sure which or how many, he never really paid any attention to anyone accept Mackenzie. As unattainable as he was. "Hey..." Phoenix smiled at the girl once Brent had stormed away. He took up her hand and gave it a firm shake. "I'm Phoenix October Night....Phee is good." The teen turned around and grabbed a couple of rags, handing the Gryffindor girl one. "Well, we better get a move on, Rayne. These trophies won't polish themselves..." Phoenix groaned, turning around with a hand on his hip, taking in the sheer amount that lined the walls. "You have a nice name, by the way, Rayne." He looked back over her with a grin that bared his pearly whites before advancing towards the first trophie, picking it up and beginning to polish half-heartedly. "What did Brent catch you doing?"

Rayne smiled when she heard his name. She had heard of him before. He always hung out with that Mackenzie person. The captain of the ravenclaw quidditch team. Rayne enjoyed watching Quidditch. Went to almost every game since she was a first year. She loved it so much, it was a shame she couldn't play it.
"Hmm. Nyxie it is."
[/b] Rayne giggled with a slight wink. She had always been the flirtatious type. Never really knew why. But Phee just didn't sound... right. Nixxie sounded much better. She was glad when he seemed like he was actually going to work. It saved Rayne time. "Technically they could clean themselves if Mr. Dickass didn't take our wands."[/b] She grumbled probably more to herself than to him. She didn't particularly like Brent... hated him, actually. She walked over by Phoenix and started to polish with him. She hated this detention the most. She would rather be writing lines or going in the forbidden forest. Something along those lines. Muggle work was torture. "I was out past curfew. Nothing major. But of course Brent is mean so he put me in stupid detention."[/b] Rayne hissed. Other teachers would have given her a warning! "What about you... What are you in prison for, Nyxie?"[/b] [/blockquote]

Phoenix shrugged his shoulders with a grin when she just went along with Nyxie. It was a bit of a girl's name but, to be honest, he didn't really mind. He'd been called worse: Fifi. How he loathed that little gem of a nickname. "But you have a point there...." Phoenix chuckled lightly, buffing up the silver piece until the grim and dust began to fade away. "Must be that time o' month for him. He's very moody." Phoenix really didn't have anything against his Head of House. He just passed off as a grumpy guy that you didn't want to find in a foul mood. "Brent caught me and Mackenzie out having a drink down at Hogsmeade." Phoenix mumbled, he felt a little bad about it. It didn't matter if it hadn't been the first time that they had gone for drinks but he felt bad about it because they had been caught. It was bound to happen sooner or later. "He was down there too and we didn't realize. Drinking alone in a grimey tavern... you'd think that he'd have something better to do being the Head an' all." [/b] Phoenix shrugged, holding a trophy close up to his face and squinting at it. Seeing that he was getting somewhere he felt good and smiled, but on looking up he saw that they still had a long way to go. There would be no guitar playing after his arms were done with this detention. "He should stop getting his knickers in a twist. He was a teen once. I bet he got up to all sorts of shit."[/blockquote]

Rayne laughed extremely loud when he mentioned it might be Brent's time of the month. It was so completely true. "Maybe I'd believe that if he wasn't moody all the time."
[/b] She said, still laughing rather loudly. She was glad she got detention with Nyxie. He made it fun. Rayne's mouth formed an 'O' shape when she heard what he had done to get detention. She kind of wondered where Mackenzie was if he had gotten caught too, but figured Mr. Dickass probably put them in different detentions. "And you didn't invite me?!"[/b] Rayne said, trying to be completely serious, but had a small grin on her face. Obviously he couldn't invite her if they had just met. But that wasn't the point. Polishing trophies was so tedious. Rayne hated it. She had finished like... two so far. She really wanted her wand. What was the chances she could jack one off a random kid that walked by in the hallways? Probably not very good without getting into even more trouble... "Have you seen him with my head of house? Chase Jackson? I bet he still gets into a ton of shit! There's something funky about the two of them that makes me wonder if they're more than just friends."[/b] Rayne remembered passing them in the hallway one day. It was so weird. [/blockquote]

Phoenix began to laugh when the girl commented on not being invited, he shook his head slowly and placed a polished trophy back in the cabinet, getting another one while he did. "Hey. I probably would of if I had known you before." Phoenix chuckled, rubbing a trophy furiously with a rag. "It'd be nice to have other company... Mackenzie keeps on getting me into deep shit." The teen frowned for a moment, peering at his warped reflection in the sterling and wiping again. His grades, although they had always been pretty good, had taken a small turn for the worse in certain subjects. In potions, half of the time he wondered why he hadn't caused an accident already. Phoenix made a secret vow to hole himself up in the dorms and study the whole weekend.... something he probably wouldn't end up doing. "But your Head and my Head....more than friends?" Phoenix repeated with a coy, little smile. "I don't know if it'll surprise me if its true.... they do seem pretty close." Great. Just what Phoenix needed. A freakin' teacher to be able to go goo-goo over. As if he didn't have enough with Mackenzie. What did he have with liking guys that were so unattainable? "Probably a reason why he's forever pissed off. Argued with his boyfriend and takes it out on everyone."

Rayne could honestly see herself becoming friends with this dude. He was funny, cute, and seemed pretty nice. Seemed like a keeper in her book. "You'll have to remember me for the next time you two sneak out. Even though I normally don't get into that much trouble... it might be fun. And I'm all for breaking the rules occasionally."
[/b] She laughed, then thought of how many times she had been in detention the last month... "Maybe I should stop though... I always seem to end up in detention."[/b] She rolled her eyes at herself. That would be why she isn't in Slytherin. She isn't cunning enough. "They're like... complete opposites. Chase is always friendly, always smiling, and isn't a complete dick. Brent seems like something is shoved up his ass 24/7. "[/b] It was so completely true. That look that Brent had in class showed that. Yet Chase's classes were always fun and easy going. But you know what people always said... opposites attract. Rayne was already getting tired of polishing these stupid things. "You'd think after how many detentions of students cleaning these things that there wouldn't be anything left to polish..."[/b] She said with a sigh before running her hand through her hand and continuing to scrub the stupid trophies. [/blockquote]

"Something shoved up his ass?" Phoenix snickered darkly. "They probably do have something going on then." He grinned with an evil shadow, rubbing the trophies to the rhythm of the bubbling chuckling that didn't cease. Phoenix hadn't really met this Chase character properly, he'd seen him in class and he supposed that he did seem quite a nice guy now that he thought about it. If what they were gossiping about was true.... he could only wonder what he'd see in Brent. The guy was really moody. It probably wasn't pleasant seeing that scowl every day. But then, love was strange, it did strange things. Hence why Phoenix was in detention right now. "They probably use magic to just dirty them all over again." Phoenix shrugged, finished a cabinet and moved onto the next. His elbows and hands were going to be sore later. "This is probably one of the suckiest detentions there is. Anything that has anything to do with cleaning sucks ass." [/color] Of course the teen would say that - he didn't do alot of it. Here in Hogwarts he was only really expected to keep his things in order and, back home, nothing was really expected of him either since his parents would smother him, glad that their son was home. "And yeah, next time we sneak off for a drink, I'll get you to come along. Only as long as you get me to sneak out with you and save me from homework." Phoenix winked with a light chuckle, flapping out his rag to rid it of all the dust and grime it was accumulating.[/blockquote]

Rayne couldn't help but laugh even harder. She hadn't even thought about that one, it was fucking hilarious. "You know... you're pretty funny."
[/b] Rayne said with a smile his way. She could honestly see herself being friends with this dude. "I'm glad I ended up in detention with you."[/b] Strangely... she meant it too. "They probably do... I could see Brent doing that..."[/b] She shook her head, picturing it in her head. He probably would even do that with a scowl on his face. Even if he was technically torturing students because Rayne didn't think that scowl ever left his face. "I wouldn't mind it if we could use our wands... but I'm used to the muggle way I guess. Me being a muggleborn and all."[/b] Rayne didn't care the she didn't have magical parents, she was proud of who she was. "That sounds like the perfect deal to me."[/b] She winked back at him before turning away and back to the trophies so he couldn't see the small smile play on her lips. [/blockquote]

Phoenix returned her smile with one of his own. He quickly turned away and began to focus his attention on buffing up the pieces of silver and gold, and away from the blush that tinted his cheeks. He saw his reflection though and couldn't help but chuckle quietly. "Yeah. Same here, I guess." The teen said after recovering some of his composure. "Rather you than some lazy fucker that just grunts to everything." [/color] Phoenix scoffed a small laugh, remembering the time he had had to share a detention with some fourth grader Huffie that acted as though he had never used a broom for cleaning in his whole life. That had certainly been a long evening sweeping the grand hall after a dinner sitting. You'd think that some students weren't capable of eating without getting half of it on the floor. "I'm a muggle-born, too, y'know." Phoenix nodded at her, placing yet another polished placard in its place. He wandered over to her spot and began helping her. "Mum's a baker, dad's an architect. I thought I was headed for the family bizz but, yeah, here I am in the end." The teen gave a shrug, searching for a clean spot on his cloth. "Magic come as a surprise to you, too?"[/color][/blockquote]

What was with this guy... He was making her feel all weird. She was actually blushing... She never blushed. It just wasn't part of her personality. But when he came over to her to help her polish the trophies... telling her that he was a muggleborn too to make her feel better. Well. It was adorable.
"If you really want. I could start being lazy."
[/b]She smirked at him, but kept polishing as she talked. It wasn't like she was really going to stop. She wanted to be done before it was morning. "My mom is a teacher. And my dad's a dentist."[/b] She chuckled a bit. Such average jobs... She turned and looked at him in the eyes. "Yeah. It was a major surprise to me. But it explained so much. All the mysterious stuff that happened. And it felt nice to get out and meet other people than the ones in my small town. Ya know?"[/b] Her eye brows burrowed a bit, but she didn't take her eyes off his. [/blockquote]

"I'd say I'd hex you if you were to slack but... I have no wand." [/color] Phoenix lifted his arms up and shrugged, wandless. That was something that ocassionally made detentions even more tedious, since you were rarely allowed a wand you either got lucky and got a cooperative person or... bad luck and you got an ass. "But if you wanna take five, go ahead. We're breezing through these trophies anyway."[/color] With a kind smile, the teen pointed at a couple of chairs in the corner and went back to buff up the silver. His arm was beginning to ache but he didn't want it to seem like to Rayne that he tired easily, and that he just wasn't cut out for things like these. So he just sucked it up and carried on. "Yeah, I know.... I didn't exactly come from a small town but I get what you mean."[/color] With a small sigh, he placed the silver piece on the shelf with a heavy thud. "And it was a bit of a relief kinda to find out it was magic that made everything go cooky. My mum was convinced I was some troublemaker-in-making. Anything weird happened - Phee's fault."[/color] Phoenix began to laugh softly. ·Of course, mum, the cat turning torquoise is totally my fault."[/blockquote]

Rayne chuckled. "Naw. No breaks mean we'll be done faster."
[/b] Rayne told him, with a smile. She didn't need to break. She'd done this plenty of times before with no one to help her. She wasn't going to leave Nyxie to do it by himself. Rayne was way too nice. And he was too cute. Rayne burt out into laughter, threw her head back and everything. "Turquoise cat?!"[/b] She asked while still laughing still. That was hilarious. "I ended up with an unlimited stash of cookies in my room. My mom kept buying more, but didn't know how they ended up disappearing. I wasn't going to question the cookies in my room..."[/b] She laughed, remembering how she was confused by it, but knew better than to tell her mom she had found the cookies... [/blockquote]

"I wasn't going to question the cookies in my room." [/b] Phoenix repeated, laughing as he did. "In those cases, its better to not complain, and just go along."[/color] Well, at least Phoenix would. He wouldn't say no to free cookies, as weird and random as it was. Sometimes, if something was going good, apart from cookies, it was best to just not question it. Like his friendship with Mackenzie. They weren't exactly alike but they got along just fine. Something that the teen wasn't about to question. "So..."[/color] Phoenix grinned, deciding to start a conversation on... more normal things. "You into music?" Music. A subject that Phoenix could talk about for hours on end. Away in his robe pocket he had his iPod and some small speakers. Muggle toys. He always brought them to detention with him, just in case he got someone as nice as Rayne to share it with. But first... he guessed it would be best if his taste in music didn't bother her. Who knew, she might be into some rap crap and hold a dislike towards his indie and soft rock tunes. "I like.... The Academy Is."[/color] Phoenix said a little quieter, almost mumbling as he busied himself with cleaning a particulary dirty trophie.[/blockquote]
