Lily saw the look on Tommy's face and could tell he felt bad. She didn't want him to feel bad, she should have been watching where she was going. Lily was always rather clumsy outside the quidditch pitch. On it, there was nothing that could bring her down.
"Hey, Don't worry about it. I'll be fine. A little pain won't hurt anyone. And like ya said. I get out of class." Lily smiled again, reassuringly. She didn't want him feeling bad.
"You just have to practice some better spells. If you ever need any help with those snakes, don't be afraid to come find me. I'll help you teach them a lesson. No one messes with us Lions!" Lily laughed again. This was weird for her. She wasn't acting shy. She was joking, and being herself. Was it because Tommy was younger than her and she didn't need to feel nervous? Maybe...

boring!" "Yeah, I do... Then maybe they'll leave me alone. Okay, they won't 'cause I wind them up in the first place but whatever. It'll be nice to teach them a lesson properly. I'll make sure I do, Lions are the best!"[/ul]

"Proper excuses are always better than hiding out on the stairs all hour." Lily smiled again. James would be proud. She wasn't cowering away from Tommy... she was talking to him. Not running away. As much as she'd like to.
"I won't tell, Tommy. Don't worry. Sometimes you just need to. Right?" Lily laughed. Although she had never skipped class before in her life, she knew that sometimes you just needed to not go to a class. It was sometimes better than showing up for the class for whatever reason and getting in trouble because you didn't get your homework done, or that you're falling asleep in class.
Lily laughed, "Lions are the best. Best house in my opinion. But I'm not big on the house rivalries. My dad taught me not to be. Something about learning his lesson." Lily smiled in remembrance of when he talked to her about that. It had been when she forced him to tell her stories when both Al and James were at Hogwarts.

save my life! And it gets really boring having to stay hiding in one place for, like, aaaaages then just having to run away after a while and hiding somewhere else and yeah, so on. It's an endless cycle." Tommy said quickly, rambling yet again. It really was an endless cycle and Tommy was definitely glad that Lily had accidentally broken it. Tommy let out a sigh of relief, "Thanks. Yeah. Well, I do it more than I really need to but whatever. Some lessons are just too boring for be to even think about showing up for them." "Neither and I but if there's one house I really don't like it has to be Slytherin. There must be a few Snakes that are alright but most of them... They're just..." Tommy pulled a disgusted face. Slytherins were horrible, the school would be a better place without them in Tommy's opinion.[/ul]

The way Tommy was talking, it made Lily wonder how often Tommy actually skipped his classes, and she wondered if she should tell him that it wasn't good to skip classes. But she didn't. It really wasn't her business, and not her right to do so.
"Don't mention it. It'll be my way of saying thanks for helping me walk down to Madam McKinney's." Lily smiled again and decided to ignore the part about classes being boring. She enjoyed them. She liked learning... so much she often wondered why she wasn't sorted into Ravenclaw. But she wasn't complaining with Gryffindor. Like she said. She thought it was the best house.
"They can be extremely mean. Especially to people that they feel they can pick on more so than anyone else. Like first years. Horrible, but true."

annoying." Some fifth year prefect had walked in when Tommy was sat in the common room and realised that first years all had lessons going on at that time. Tommy had ended up having yet another detention. "Yeah. And everyone picks on first years, it's just that Slytherins do it the most and in the most horrible ways. I should know." Tommy mumbled, a little annoyed that in the past he'd allowed himself to be pushed around by Slytherins but he knew it would've been worse if he'd fought back, they'd been a lot older than him. "I imagine it would be. Why you decided to hide out on the stairs, I'll never know." Lily laughed. There were plenty of places in Hogwarts that were way better hideouts. Then again, she knew most of those because of her father. He had told her of the room of requirement before she had come to Hogwarts. She hadn't gone there often, but she did occasionally.
"Yeah, all people aren't exactly care free. If you catch a prefect or head boy or girl. Or even some random older student that is a pest. They'll get you in trouble." Lily didn't know from experience, but because one of her friends, or whatever you wanna call them, had that happen to her.
"Don't worry. You won't be a first year forever! And it gets way better when you're a second year. People start looking past you. Then they pick on the new first years."

"I suppose you're right. It would be easy if everyone was in class. I suppose I ruined that." Lily laughed, but looked apologetically at Tommy. Even though he wasn't in trouble, and wouldn't be in trouble now because Lily fell down the stairs. She was starting to hurt everywhere... in her back mainly. Oh well...
"There are probably more of us out there than you truly think. For me. I blame my father's genes. He was a bit of a trouble maker in a way. But my grandfather was even more. He was a maurader." Lily smiled as she remembered the stories her father told her about his time at Hogwarts, and the stories that he knew about his parents. Which wasn't much.
Lily's eyebrow's burrowed a bit. "Why would you ask Professor McKinney for a broom? I don't think teachers are supposed to bu students things like that." It didn't make sense to Lily.

Lily laughed. "Well that's good." Lily continued to smile. This little first year could make her smile more than she thought anyone here would be able to. He was just so cute, and his smile was contagious. Lily was glad he made her fall down the stairs. She needed something like this to keep her mind off of everything else going on.
Lily's smile was wiped off by Tommy's next statement though. "I'm so sorry, Tommy... That must be horrible." She felt the need to hug him, but thought that might make him feel worse. Lily couldn't imagine her life without her dad. She loved him too much. To not have a dad.... that would be horrible.
"Uhh. Okay? You have to know why..." Lily said. Laughing a little. It was clear the little one knew, but didn't know if he should tell Lily. Good thing Lily was a bit nosey.

be horrible if I actually knew him but it doesn't bother me because I never did. Same with my mum. And I'm sure they wouldn't want me to be sad about them being dead anyway. I have a big brother though so that's good as well. Even if he has only just found out I exist and... well, he didn't react how I expected him to.." He tried his best to think of something that wouldn't reveal the truth to Lily but Tommy couldn't think of anything. "No I, uhhh, dunno why. Honestly." he smiled at her. [/ul]

Listening to Tommy's story it sort of gave Lily an idea. An idea that made Lily think it was true. She didn't get good grades for nothing. She was smart. She could put two and two together.
"I don't suppose your big brother could be Professor McKinney... could it?" It would make sense. They did sort of look alike... and it would make sense if Brent wouldn't take it too well. Lily kind of pegged him as someone that would over react a bit. Right? It seemed like a McKinney move.
It would explain a lot. And it went together perfectly. Lily was kind of anxious to see if she was right. She hoped she wasn't wrong. She hated being wrong, and it would be so embarrassing. Completely. One hundred percent embarrassing.

Lily was right! She didn't actually think she would be right, or that he would admit it either. But she was, and he had! This kid was Professor McKinney's brother! That was hard to think of. It was weird. Extremely weird.
"Don't worry. I won't tell anyone!" Lily smiled at him to show that she was serious. She really wouldn't tell anyone. Mainly because she really didn't have anyone to tell.
"I'm glad you have some kind of family though. And I'm sure McKinney will come to his senses soon and realize what a great little brother he has." Lily smiled again. Everyone should have some kind of family. It would be horrible if someone didn't have any family. Lily would feel bad for them. She loved her family too much to think about not having one at all. She couldn't think of it.
