Gabe entered the staff room, hoping no one was around. He really needed to be alone so that he could think. He never thought he would be back in Hogwarts after he graduated there. It was never really the place he could call haven. There was no place he could be safe. Not with the life he was living.
All Gabe ever wanted was to find the perpetrator who killed his mother and settle down. But his mother's case came before his own. He sighed as he reminded himself that being a death eater in hiding wasn't the best lifestyle a wizard would want to be bragging out to the world.
The moment he walked through the doors, Gabe saw another person was already inside. "Great! Just great! Isn't there anywhere else THIS guy stays at?" Gabe thought to himself. He kept seeing Brent around more than he wanted. Usually the other professor, Jackson was his family name, was with him.

"McKinney." Gabe said with a nod. He didn't know this particular professor at all but he had to be civil to not cause any tension while he was in Hogwarts. He noticed the Daily Prophet Brent was holding and wondered if there were any interesting news the newspaper printed that day.
Gabe took out his wand and with a quick wrist movement, he had coffee in his hand. "Is there anything interesting in the news today?" he asked calmly, trying to make a decent conversation without any tension involved. He then recalled what Minna told him about Brent. This made him use self-control to not smirk.
"I've heard a few things about you from Theoreux. I'm now debating whether I believe her or not." Gabe told him as he took a sip of his coffee.

He took another sip of his coffee, trying to hide his amusement. Minna was right about him. Though McKinney wasn't going to drive Gabe mentally crazy, it did make Gabe try his hardest not to laugh out loud with how Brent answered his first question about the news.
"What he just staring at the paper this whole time?" he asked himself mentally. He tried to smile a little at Brent. "Nothing much. She merely said that you and Jackson are rather 'out of the ordinary' type of people. Oh and that you either drive people mentally insane or out the castle grounds." Gabe spoke softly.
He knew that this might actually lead to a fight between Minna, Brent, and Chase. Gabe had already planned to save her when the fight would actually happen.IF it happened that is. But he had a good feeling about it all. "She also mentioned that you are married to her best friend, Maryn I think was the name. And that Minna would never understand what your wife saw in you."
Gabe was being honest within reason. Brent did have a right to know what other people thought of him. However, Gabe's intentions were to look good in front of Theoreux. "Do you think she's seeing anyone?" he asked out of the blue. He wanted to take back the question but was still stunned tos peak.

Gabe was menatally slapping himself for blurting out loud about his thoughts of Theoreux. "Well... She seems like an interesting person to me..." Gabe began. "Besides, she's from the same house I was in during my Hogwarts years."
It was true. But he was not going to rush into anything. He didn't even know if she liked him. And he only met her once at the Great Hall. For breakfast. He mentally sighed and turned to look at Brent.
"That cold-hearted bitch isn't really that cold. You should get to know her a little bit. However, she is still a bitch in some sense." Gabe tried to lighten the mood.

Gabe knew Brent was going to say that. Minna did, in a discreet manner, show dislike of the man in front of him. But he did wonder why they hated each other. Though Minna did say that it wasn't because of the blood line, Gabe had to question why they can't seem to be civil without bursting.
"I should say that you have no need to worry about me being a Slytherin once upon a time. It was years ago and the moment I left after graduation, I left any house rivalry behind me. Besides, it would be a shameful behaviour to bring up old student habits now. We are professors and no longer students here." he said with a smile.
Gabe took another sip of his coffee, "I do not mean to pry, but why do you hate Theo--Minna? She seemed nice and welcoming. I don't think she'd keep old feelings until now." he began to say. "She did say that despite you driving people insane, she finds it quite humorous. But wouldn't admit it." Gabe lied. He wanted to see how the man would react.
"She also added, that she never hated you and Jackson. A merely dislike because of how things ended up: You marrying her best friend and all. That must have shocked her." he told him another lie. He was trying his best to appear calm.
"And I am most definitely interested simply because she is like a puzzle waiting to be put together." Gabe added in the end. He didn't want to say anything more less he wanted Brent to see that he was really THAT interested in his co-faculty member.

many reasons." Brent hissed, "One of them being she takes pleasure in making my life as miserable as possible." Brent dreaded to think of how Minna would react when she found out that he had been cheating on her best friend... "Humorous?" Brent rolled his eyes. He found himself agreeing though... "You know, I don't really care what that woman says so if you'd please stop telling me I'd appreciate it." he snapped sharply, reaching the end of his tether. There was only so much Theoreux Brent could take in one conversation. [/ul]

Gabe was definitely amused by the man in front of him. How did Minna make his life miserable? Well, he was going to find out sooner or later. "Alright, enough talk of Minna Theoreux. Can you just tell me why she said that you would probably send new teachers out the castle due to insanity? If those are true that is." He asked politely.
It was obvious that Gabe was trying to know the people he was working with, whether pure blood, blood traitor, or mudbloods. He just had to know who were who so that when time came for the information would be needed, he would already have known.
"And what's with you and Chase Jackson? I've been hearing things from mouths, mind you I don't listen to them really. However... From what I've heard, you and your wife aren't in the best terms as of the moment as well... Anything I can help you with?" Gabe asked.
He wasn't being nice without a reason. It was a favor that someday, if Brent asks for help now, the man will have to repay it someday. Not like Gabe needed favors from anyone. It was just for emergency situations. He never could tell when he would need to call on a return favor.

Brent stared at Gabe, wide-eyed. What the Hell does he mean by that? Surely Gabe wasn't implying that he'd heard rumours about that? There was no way... How?... Brent was starting to panic. "I-I... Nothing. I dunno what you mean." he stammered, "Chase and me... We've been best friends for twenty years, that's all." He convientally forget to mention that he'd dated Chase for one of these years and they were more than 'just best friends' at the moment. "And, for your information, I'm getting on just fine with my wife. More than fine. Not that it's any of your business. I don't need your help and I wouldn't want it if I did happen to need it!" he snarled defensively. Brent really wasn't happy now...[/ul]

Gabe tried his best not to smirk. "However, judging from your reaction, you know what I'm talking about. There is no need for you to hide it from me. I can tell that you two are more than friends and that you and your wife are going through a rough time right now." he said calmly. He made his cup of coffee disappear and move to sit next to Brent.
"I know that I'm new here and that I have no right to say things, but you must now that bottling things up won't get you anywhere. It would probably just make things worse for you, Brent." Gabe stretched out his hand to Brent. "I want us to be friends. I don't know anyone in here really and from what I heard, I have to avoid Blackwood if I don't want my day to be ruined." he chuckled.
"If I were to choose between laughing my arse off or having my day ruined, I would rather laugh my arse off. It'll make me feel better that way." he told Brent with a smile. He was being honest about the laughing part. He didn't want a bad day because he knew that he would most likely hex the target of his bad mood. He turned to look at Brent again.
"So, how about it? Friends?" he asked again with a wide smile.
