Chase walked over to the couch and sat down next to her, putting an arm around her shoulder in a comforting way. Chase understood what she was saying. To some degree. He hadn't had the exact same situation, because he had always had his mom, but he got the not caring.
"It's always hard... to go through life with no one. Or little to no one." Chase didn't truly know what to say. He thought about telling her his story. But no one knew that except his band mates. Even then only Brent knew everything. Because it was him that helped Chase get over things. In the end, Chase decided to give a shortened version of it. Because if she was spilling, so should he.
"My dad was a drunk. He used to beat me and my mom whenever he got drunk. Which was normally every night or all day long. I used to hide from him, but I also tried protecting my mom." Chase looked down, still keeping his arm on Minna.
"Eventually my mom kicked him out, found the courage somehow. But she died shortly after I graduated Hogwarts. I haven't heard from my dad since." Chase hadn't really talked about these things since he was younger. And it was always with Brent.
"It's why me and Brent are so close. He helped me through everything. I was a mess before he came in. Still would be if he didn't make me see that life is so much better without dwelling on the past." Chase smiled a little. He really did owe a lot to Brent.
"Look at us. Actually talking. Not being mean. Having a heart to heart conversation." Chase smiled as he looked at Minna. He would have never thought he would be telling her anything. Let alone his deepest secret.

Minna listened intently to what Chase had to say. And what he chose to share with her was something she never expected. "I never knew muggles could be more barbaric than wizards." she thought to herself. A feeling of sympathy came over her as she reached out to hold Chase's hand. She didn't say anything but hoped that he would feel her comfort.
She shocked her own self as she notice what she was doing. She was being nice to Chase Michael Jackson, the other half of the reason why her best friend was going to be in pain when Brent would tell her the whole truth.
Minna was inawe of what Brent had to do for Chase. What this person was going through was something she never could imagine going through herself. She was, somwhat, glad that Brent was able to help Chase with such a life changing phase.
Then she caught what Chase added near the last. This made her smile for a little bit and laughed. She had to agree with him. They had never been this close, ever. But here they were now, sharing such secrets with each other. "Talk about 'twist of fate' as muggles call it." she told him.

Minna hadn't said anything to Chase about what she said, but instead grabbed his hand. It was more than Chase even expected from her. He expected her to not really care. But here she was, showing that she did. Chase found this kind of odd. But didn't question it. Everyone had a heart on the inside of them. Whether it showed up all the time or not. It was there. He figured that Minna's was just buried. But now he knew for sure it was there.
Squeezing her hand, showing her that he felt her comfort back, was Chase's way of saying thanks. He hoped she understood. It was hard for him to talk about that. Yet he told Minna, someone he thought he was enemies with. Someone who teased his best friend throughout school, even himself sometimes. Then again. If Brent could forgive Maryn for what they did to him. Then why couldn't Chase?
Chase laughed at her, a smile staying on his face. "A major twist of fate. If someone would have told me I was going to have a civil conversation with you today, and actual heart to hear, I would have told them they had gone completely insane."

Minna couldn't help but laugh with Chase. "I know what you mean. If someone told me last week that I would be having a civil and heart felt talk with you, they would probably regret doing so since I would hex them into the next lifetime before they could say 'Hogwarts'." she told him.
But talking to Chase made her feel lighter and a bit better. Not that she would admit it though. Though Minna was being civil with the person who triggered Maryn's sadness, she couldn't blame him at all. Chase was right. Neither he nor Brent could have predicted this to happen.
Human emotions are really a mystery even to wizards and witches. Despite having the means to know what emotions really mean, it was something that magic couldn't anticipate at all. It comes and goes on its own, not thinking about the lives it would make or break.

Chase laughed with Minna as she laughed with him. He was surprised it wasn't like an awkward sort of thing. It really was just two friends talking and laughing. Wait, friends? Did Chase just think that? No... they couldn't be friends. They weren't friends. Nor could they ever be friends. It wasn't right. They could never be friends. Then again, Chase never thought Maryn and Brent would get married either.
"I really hope everything turns out in the end. I would hate for anything horrible to happen. But I know if Maryn gets hurt by this you'll stick by her, and she'll get hurt. And I know if brent feels bad I'll stick by him. Which he will as well. So wouldn't this kind of be a one time friendship sort of thing?" Chase kinda laughed. It was true. It wasn't like they could actually be friends.

Minna laughed and laughed. She hadn'tbeen that carefree in quite a while. However, a thought passed through Minna's mind that caught her full attention.
"What will happen when Maryn would ask you to avenge her? and what if Chase stands against Maryn? What will you do? Will you not hurt Chase because you both seemed similar now? Or will you stand by Maryn's side and just hope that everything won't end that bad?" her thought asked her.
Indeed, Minna was in a daze. What will she do? She didn't have an answer to her question.

Chase watched as Minna basically when into a complete daze. She didn't say anything, or really do anything. She was just kind of staring ahead of them. Chase didn't know what to really do. It seemed to be in a really good daze.
Waving his hand in front of her eyes and laughing a bit, he asked her "Are you still there?" Sure, she had laughed. But as soon as she stopped she went in the daze. Chase had a feeling it was about Brent and Maryn. Something about that at least. The specifics weren't known, obviously. They wouldn't be known unless Chase used legilimens. Which wouldn't go over so well probably. Not to mention Chase wasn't practiced in that field.

Minna wasn't really paying attention to what she was doing. She was too caught up in her daze to notice that Chase was trying to capture her attention again. "What will I do? Chase doesn't deserve to get caught in the cross fire but he will surely protect Brent like I would fight for Maryn." she thought.
Truly, Minna was troubled. Despite not liking Chase and Brent since they were students, she didn't really hate them. She just found them strange and different from the way Minna viewed people. They were free and careless of what reprecautions would occur. But they were happy. She wasn't. She was never happy. Then she snapped out and quickly turned to face Chase. She held his hands in her, trying her best to hide her nervousness. She looked serious and determined, "To be honest, I never really thought that I would have this lengthy of a talk with you of all people... But... I think I can call you a friend since you've known the part about my life that I have always tried to hide..." Minna began.
"But... Chase, I know Maryn will want revenge. And I don't want you to get caught up in the cross fire. Please try to stay away from her as much as you can. She will hex you to the next life time." Minna said with concern. She was truly concerned for the people that would be caught between Maryn and Brent's soon to be battle for revenge. Though McKinney won't really exact revenge, Maryn would certainly do.

Chase finally understood completely what Minna was thinking about, and he couldn't blame her. He had semi thought of it too. But he couldn't accept her advice.
"I'm sorry, Minna. I just can't. Like you said. I'm going to stand up for Brent. No matter what that means for me. I'm going to stand up for him. He's been my friend for my entire life. It's the least I can do." Chase meant it. There was nothing that could stop him from backing up Brent.
"I'll make sure to get out of the way of her hexes. How about that?" Chase joked. Maryn didn't necessarily scare him. But he knew that she was able to do things to him that would cause him immense pain. He didn't like that thought. But he would go through it for Brent.

Minna sighed. She knew Chase would answer that way. He wasn't going to lent Brent face Maryn and her alone. She had to think of a way to not get Chase in the fight. They both didn't deserve to be in a marriage fight. It was between Maryn and Brent.
Then Minna had an idea. She couldn't help but smile. "Chase, if I stay out of the fight, will you stay out as well? This fight is between Brent and Maryn. We both shouldn't be in it." Minna told Chase. The reason why she was trying to save him was because she saw a part of her in him. Chase was just like her in some ways.
"Please Chase. I give you my word that I will stay out of the battle as long as you will too. I know you love Brent. I love Maryn as well but we can never be part of their war. It's for them to settle themselves. All we can do is watch and hope that it won't end in bloodshed or death." she added as she looked at Chase pleadingly.
Minna was confused in her mind. She was trying her best to keep Chase out for his own good which she wonders why she was doing. They both had never been friends since they were students, why start now? "Time changes people... You should know that well..." Minna's mind told her. And it was right, time does have its ways of changing people in starnge ways.

"...Let them do the fighting?" Chase kind of half asked, half said out loud so he could make sure he had heard her right. Brent could deal with Maryn on his own. And Chase would still be there for him, just not in the actual fight. Chase could deal with that.
"Okay. Fine. I agree. But if I find out you were a part of it, you'll have to watch out for me." Chase made sure she knew that he would come after her if she lied to him and went with Maryn to Brent. Chase would probably almost never leave his side after he actually told her what was happening. Mainly because he knew it wouldn't be good. Maryn wouldn't like what Brent was going to tell her. Who would like being told they had a cheating husband.
"This is an odd sort of truce, isn't it." Chase smiled sadly at her. It was actually kind of sad that they hadn't had a civil conversation early than this.

She knew it was the only way. Minna nodded, "I give you my word. I know that Maryn will come to me for help and all. But I won't really dip my hands into it. When the real battle starts, I won't be in it. Niether will you. We both can't make the situation better, only worse. I know." she told him and sighed.
It was true. If Minna and Chase battled along, the whole thing will spin out of their control and will reach the Head Mistress. It was the last thing they needed. They didn't want to attract attention. "Odd in every sense of the word." she told him with a warm smile. She regreted being mean to everyone else that wasn't a Sytherin when she was younger. But it was how she was brought up and she thought that if she did excellently in school, her father would at least acknowledge her existence.

Chase agreed with what Minna was saying, for once. He agreed with everything. He knew that he should just back out of it, especially with Minna backing away as well. It wouldn't be as big of a fight with only Brent and Maryn. It would be less of one, and therefore better. Chase just didn't want to tell Brent that he wouldn't be fighting with him. Sure, he'd still be there for him. Minna couldn't get him to leave Brent's side. He just wouldn't be fighting.
"Okay. I give you my word as well. I won't be fighting against Maryn with Brent." Chase offered a small smile.
"I'm glad we talked, Minna. This is probably better than what would have happened originally if we hadn't. And it's nice, ya know. Getting along like this. Much better than fighting." Chase chuckled a bit. He hoped they would stay this way. Not fighting. But Brent was going to hate Maryn and Minna both. And Maryn was going to hate Chase and Brent both. He didn't know if it was possible.

"I have to say this though, when Maryn does come to me and tell me her plan, the least I could do is not tell you what it is. ITs the least I can do for her. You understand right, Chase?" she asked him. She hoped he did.
She wondered how long they were going to be the way they were now, civil and calm. They looked like they had been friends for a long time. She then gave him a warm smile.
"I'm glad that we did have this talk. It may have very well affected the out come of Brent and Maryn's whole problem. If we didn't get this talk, we might have been involved in the revenge plot and in the battle itself." she told.

Chase took a deep sigh. "I understand that Minna. I wouldn't expect you to rat out your friend. It wouldn't be fair to her or you." Chase offered her a small smile. He wouldn't want to rat Brent out should he be in Maryn's situation. Brent wasn't going for revenge as he felt bad about it. So Chase wouldn't have to worry about that.
"I get what you mean. I'm glad for that... less people involved the better." Chase meant that even if he would do anything to help Brent in whatever way he possibly could. "I really should go now... I need to prepare for my class, I have nothing planned yet." Chase thought about how unorganized he was. It was horrible. Then he thought about Brent's organization and figured he could be worse. "It was nice talking to you, Minna. And I mean that."
