Awkward moment you realize that you fit into your old school clothes. Alex was having it. After the incident with the Thestral and having Chase almost die on him, Alex had been left covered in his friend's blood. The pair had decided that it would be best to shower before they went anywhere. The Three Broomsticks probably wouldn't approve of two bloodstained men coming in and scaring off all their customers. It had seemed like a good idea to get a shower back at Hogwarts until he had realized that he had no clean clothes...
So there Alex was now. Sat at a table in the Three Broomsticks. In Ravenclaw's colours. Chase's clothes made him look pathetic and Alex had actually preferred the old silver and blue over looking like so. He'd been offered the robe too but that would of been just too much. When he had showered and dressed the first thing he had growled to Chase was: "We do not talk of this." And then they had set off on their way for a strong drink.
Alex sat there, drumming his fingers on the table, reminiscing. Being back in his old uniform was bringing back memories by the truckload. He guessed this wasn't so bad. He'd just have to make Chase believe his threat to curse him should he breathe a word of this to anyone. "You okay there, Chase?" The young man asked. "Does the cut feel better after that shower?"

Chase literally couldn't stop laughing. Alex in old Ravenclaw clothes was the funniest thing in the world. He had offered anything in his closet for him to wear, but they weren't really the same size. What so ever. So he had been forced into it, and Chase thought it was the funniest thing in the world. Unfortunately, he knew Alex wasn't too happy about it, so he let it rest. He could silently make his jokes. But Brent was going to be hearing about this later. That was for sure.
"Stop worrying about me, honestly." Chase smiled at him and shook his head. Taking a sip of beer. "It feels better than when it first happened, but like you said. It's going to feel bad for a while."Chase had decided to go light on the beer tonight. No matter what he wanted to do. He didn't want to risk it not sitting well with him. That didn't mean he was going to listen to himself.
"But what about you. How's the life as a healer?" Chase smiled and sipped his beer again.

Alex's first beer had gone down with extreme ease. What had happened in the forest had left him thirsting for it tremendously. He was taking his time with this second one though, matching Chase's pace since, Alex guessed, he was going to take it slow. If anything he'd carry on at home and probably'd end up sending Reid a cheeky owl at three in the morning.
"Its alright, I guess. Its pretty demanding though." But Alex wouldn't change it for any job in the world. It was what he wanted to do. The young man gave a casual roll of his shoulders and disappeared into his beer for a moment. "But there's usually never a dull day. We had a Polyjuice gone wrong yesterday. Some guy wanted to pull a party trick and he kinda... got stuck. A disfigured version of his friend and himself. It was rather vile. Most potions on the black market are poorly made. But some still take their chances and go for it." He peered down at his current clothing and shook his head - no one would guess that he was a Healer right now. Alex only hoped that the other customers in the pub wouldn't notice much. They'd either think that a professor was buying a student beer or that Alex was a strange man dressed in Hogwarts uniform for some reason. To be honest, he didn't know which he preferred.
"And what about you? Brent told me that Hogwarts kids seem to be worse than when we were attending." Alex said with a chuckle, taking a long drink of his beer. He sucked in his top lip to rid it of the froth before wiping it dry with his sleeve. "But he's probably just saying that since he's a professor now."

Chase had always thought the life of a healer would be interesting. He probably would have became one if it wasn't for his love of animals. But he just couldn't get himself to do something he didn't absolutely love. So he chose to do something with animals. It especially wasn't difficult to chose when his highest N.E.W.T. was in Care of Magical Creatures.
"I'm sure it keeps you busy. The lack of time I've been able to see you proves that." Chase smirked at him. He had barely been able to see Alex, or Reid for that matter, for a while. They hadn't had a band practice in a while, other than the one they just had. It was depression.
"I think that's just Brent. The kids aren't that bad. Most of them are actually good kids. But you know Brent." Chase laughed. "I really wish I could have gone to Romania to study dragons with a few others. But I couldn't get myself to leave Brent for that long. That had been back before everything. So I just settled down at Hogwarts. I love teaching, honestly." Chase really did. It was rewarding being able to teach people things. One of the best feelings in the world.

A frown flitted briefly over Alex's face - had he just heard right? Chase had just told him that he passed up the opportunity to study abroad just so he could stay close to Brent? Alex raised his eyebrows and drowned a peeved retort in his beer. He set the glass down with exaggerated care and peered over at Chase.
"If that was what you wanted to do you should of gone for it. Brent would of supported you." So Alex hoped. He didn't think his friend would be selfish enough to complain. The young man hadn't ever really had the chance to study away so the fact that Chase snubbed the opportunity left Alex slightly taken aback. He'd wanted to go to Spain but as soon as he had left Hogwarts he had to plunge himself into the work market almost immediately. Bills and rent didn't pay for themselves and, in Alex's case, they weren't paid by an inheritance either.
"Dragons are pretty cool though... dangerous but cool." He would never have it in him to get too close. "I've only seen one man with dragon injuries in Mungo's. He was done up pretty bad. Nothing compared to that." Alex gestured at Chase's chest by tilting his glass in its direction. He gave a little shrug and downed a little more beer. This was what his body had been craving. Beer and good company. "But teaching isn't so bad, I guess. I plan to make it to Head Healer someday so I can teach the newbies the ropes."

Chase just shrugged. It was a career option he had looked into, and knew he had a good chance at getting. But he chose what he wanted to do in the end. That was be with Brent. He wasn't regretting his decision what so ever. "I just couldn't do it, Alex... It's hard to explain why." It wasn't. Chase could explain it, but he didn't know if Alex wanted to hear all the gushiness that came with it.
"They've always been cool to me. I wish I could have one to show all my classes..." Chase smiled. He had actually considered asking if he could get a tame small one to keep in the forest for certain classes. But he figured the answer was no.
Chase smiled widely at him. "I'm sure you'll make Head Healer in no time. As for me. I'm perfectly fine with where I am for the rest of my life." That was true. Next to Brent, doing something he loved, getting paid to take care of animals. Creature nerds dream come true.

Its hard to explain... Alex could pretty much guess what Chase wanted to say and what his reasons would be. He sighed and downed the rest of his pint to hide his frown. The guy remembered how once upon a time he had wished that Chase would feel that way about him. He had wanted him to hold that level of affection towards him that was so great that it had rendered him unable to stray far from Brent. Alex stared into the dregs in his glass, furrowing his brow.
"Brent's certainly a lucky guy." Alex sighed, setting his empty glass on the table and gesturing to a waitress that he would most definitely want another. He hoped that Brent knew just how lucky he was to have a man like Chase fawn inconditionally over him. He probably did now. But not before. Not when he had dumped Chase like that those years ago. That was probably one of the few moments that Alex could honestly say that he had disliked Brent. But then again.... that year had passed in a haze, product of a cocktail of alcohol and petty drugs.
Securing a job at Mungo's and Reid had been what saved him in a way. He hadn't gone to Brent for obvious reasons. And Chase... well, he would of felt awkward to. He just tried to hide it from him with no luck. He liked to pretend that he did though, that he didn't turn up to band practice wasted. Alex snickered. That had been when "Jackie" had happened, if that was his name, it sounded like that though. The day after that one had been a pretty awkward one.
"I dread to think what our floor'll be like when they start scouting for a new Head. We're all going to be after it." Alex groaned, running a hand through his hair. He pressed a couple of sickles into the waitress' hand for two fresh beers when she arrived with them. He took a deep drink and scowled lightly. "My collegues aren't the type that are into fair play. And we all specialize in poisons so... I'll be bringing my own coffee to work when that happens."

Chase smiled in response. "More like I'm the lucky one..." He said without really thinking about it. It was how he felt. He felt like he won the jackpot when he had finally gotten Brent all to himself. It was like Chase won some huge prize that would never go away. That's how he saw it at least. He was sure there was a twinkle in his eyes. There always was when he thought about Brent.
Chase laughed. "Watch your back, and do well. You're a shoe in. The best healer in the world. Especially after tonight." Chase smiled, meaning it. If it wasn't for him, he wouldn't be here right now. He'd probably be dead in the forest. Chase took a long drink of his beer. He was feeling fine. A little lightheaded, but that was probably from the lack of blood. Nothing he couldn't deal with.

Was Chase really for real? He thought he was the lucky guy after all Brent put him through. Alex felt a rude retort jitter up his throat and he reached for his beer to drown it. He wondered if he was going to have to keep this up for the rest of the night - swallowing down his impulsive replies with beer. It would be impossible. The more he drank, the looser his tongue became.
When Alex looked away from his glass, he spotted how Chase's eyes glimmered now that he was thinking of Brent. His friend had honestly been blinded by love. For years. That wasn't natural, was it? Alex wondered whether he might have to check Chase's beer for Amortentia back in Hogwarts. Don't get Alex wrong - he was glad for his friends. He just thought it was wrong how Chase felt lucky to have Brent. "I hope he doesn't mess it up this time. Again." Was all Alex could really think to say without sounding rude.
"Let's just hope the people they send in to scout think so too." The Spaniard raised his glass and took another sip, a notably smaller one. "But they say sometimes you can tell if someone's a scout. They're usually patients, poisoned by something, and they don't give you much information to challenge you. But then.... its pretty much like that every day." Alex rolled his eyes. He had seen some weird cases over the few years he had been working at St. Mungo's.
"Are we gonna have band practice again this weekend since you're all..." Alex made a face and pretended to slash at his stomach with his finger. "...cut up?"

Chase tried not to make what Alex had said something bad. Alex knew Brent's track history. Chase knew it too, but he honestly thought this time was different. "I hope he doesn't either... but just the way he is... he's different. It's a side I've never seen before, and I've never seen it with Maryn either. I know him inside and out, it's hard to make mistakes with someone that knows you as well as I know Brent." Chase told Alex honestly. He really wanted things to work out. And if he wanted them to, then they would. Right?
"I'm sure whatever scout you get, with whatever situation, you'll ace the secret test. You just aced an impromptu injury... that isn't even in your jurisdiction!" Chase said, meaning it. He wasn't in animal injuries, yet he knew what to do still. It was impressive.
"I'm not sure... I don't know if I can drum. We can still meet up though. I can attempt it." Chase said with a sad smile. He wanted practice to go on... he didn't want to have to cancel it because of his stupid injury.

Alex sincerely hoped that Chase wasn't falling into the delusion that Brent would never mess up again on him. It was Brent. Things weren't going to be a "happily ever after" from now on - it was impossible. Alex set his glass back on the coaster and forced himself not to raise his eyebrows at it. Another pint gone. If Chase kept this talking about Brent up he was going to get smashed.
"Some people never change." It was hard to say that without adding a melody to it. Alex beckoned the waitress to bring him another beer, he didn't bother ordering Chase one since it didn't look like he needed one just yet. So much for keeping Chase's pace.
"I'm not saying things won't work out for you two its just..." Alex shrugged and pressed silver coins into the worker's hand in exchange for the pint. "...I don't even know where I'm going with this, to tell the truth." He gave a half laugh before giving his fresh beer a taste. Maybe he was drinking a bit too fast. And he hadn't eaten either so it was going on an empty stomach. Alex was definitely en route to getting pretty much wasted. But wasn't that what he was aiming for anyway?
"Looks like next weekend you'll have to bring the wand out." Alex didn't know if charming the drum set with magic would work for Chase, he'd never seen him use that type of magic before. "It can't be too hard to play with a wand."

Chase kind of couldn't believe how much beer Alex was going through. It was quite a bit for a little guy like him. Chase had decided he wasn't getting completely smashed, but it looked as though Alex was. That was fine with Chase, he could do whatever he wanted.
"I really think he has though... and I know. I shouldn't be all lovey when something could happen to mess it up." Chase just couldn't help but hope it was different though. "All I know is that this is what I've been waiting for since we broke up over ten years ago. I've been waiting for this. I couldn't get myself to look at anyone else the way I looked at Brent. and now he's finally mine." Chase smiled at the thought. Brent was all his, and there was nothing anyone could do about that.
"I don't know if I'll like using my wand to play the drums... but I could give it a shot. Anything is worth trying to be able to play for practice, right? I missed all the practices we had before. All the time we spent together as a band... now we're split into two couples." Chase still didn't know how he felt about that.

"There were other guys out there, sabes." Alex said suddenly. He cast his gaze down to the table and blinked before taking a deep drink. "I'm... not saying I'm not happy for you both now but... I dunno." Alex told himself to shut up. He wasn't making this any better for himself. Although he had Reid now Alex was, in a way, still hurt over how Chase had blindly doted on Brent all those years ago. It had been back when the whole scene with his parents had gone down. The young teen had just wanted someone to prove that not all was bad for him in the world. But Chase hadn't helped.
"The band's always been in two couples, Chase." Alexander sighed, running his finger along the rim of his glass. "Its always been you and Brent, and then Reid and me, in a way. This won't change much." He wished he could believe himself. The atmosphere in the last band practice had been much more different. With Brent and Chase being together they were closer than ever. And then when Reid and he had came out about their relationship... it sort of just divided them more. Alex hadn't said anything because it was probably obvious - they all had been counting on the night to end so they could flit off with their partners. It was a depressing thought. Hopefully it wouldn't be like that every band practice.
Alex leaned back in his chair and pressed his glass against his cheek, cooling it. He knew he had been blushing this whole time. But it wasn't really anything out of the ordinary. Talking about Brent, and then about Reid... a flush had been inevitable. And more so with the amount he had already put away. "Lets just hope no one breaks up, eh?"

Chase had heard it before. It wasn't like this was new information to him. "I know there was. Girls too... but I couldn't get myself to look at anyone the way I saw Brent, Alex. It's just the way it is. I love him too much. I've been in love with him since probably about first year honestly." Chase smiled and chuckled sadly. Realizing how true what he just said was. He didn't want anyone else. He wanted Brent.
"And I guess you're right. The Gryffindors and the Ravenclaws in a way..." It was sad, but true. They had always been in pairs. Brent and Chase were close, while Alex and Reid were close. Even though the entire band had no secrets. It was... complicated to explain.
"I think we're all perfect for one another. I don't think there's going to be a break up anytime soon at least. I think we'll both last for a while." Or at least that was what Chase was hoping for. He didn't want the band to suffer because of a break up... if a couple did break up.. would it break up the band too?

"Ever since... first year?" Alexander repeated with a certain level of disbelief. Alex hadn't known Chase until the train leaving Hogwarts on that year. He had... never stood a chance. It was a rather miserable thought. He had crushed on Chase for those first years in Hogwarts and his friend had never batted an eye in his direction. Never had and never would. He had been so infatuated with Brent that it seemed like the younger Chase hadn't even paused to consider other people. Like Alex.
"My money's on that I'll be the first of the four to slip up." Alex sighed, speaking honestly. As much as he loved Reid and wanted to try his best, he couldn't help but think it. Alex wasn't used to this "serious relationship" stuff. He was scared he'd mess up and maybe not even realize it until it was too late. "I have a knack for getting myself into trouble..." Alex literally mumbled this into his glass while he looked away. His short temper was usually to blame.
"But I doubt we'll ever break up anytime soon... I really can't see it happening." Trying to picture the band going their separate ways seemed impossible to Alex. They had all been together for so long... it see it all crumble away because someone split seemed crazy. They hadn't when Chase and Brent had split, so why should things be different this time around? "I honestly wouldn't know what to do with my free time."
