Chase shook his head and laughed when Alex lifted his shirt up to inspect his stomach. "Like what you see?" Chase winked at him. Alex was fun to tease sometimes, and he had just told Chase he would look good pregnant. He had to get him back somehow. "And I know he will. But he's still afraid. I'll convince him. Somehow." Chase said with a slight chuckle. He'd bring out his puppy dog face.
"Have I told you I love you before? Because if I haven't; I love you." Chase said as he threw his arms around Alex and squeezed him hard before letting him go get the meat and stuff for a cook out. "Don't call me papi! You little Spaniard." Chase said as he shook his head with a fond smile.
Chase sat there waiting for Alex to come back with a smile on his face. He sat down on the grass and started to picture him and Brent living on their own, with a little baby. He wanted a girl. He wanted to cuddle with her at night and sing to her as she fell asleep. He wanted to be able to sit down and feed her a bottle as he smiled next to Brent sitting next to him on the couch. He wanted to be able to kiss her forehead as she fell asleep and look up so Brent could kiss him. Chase wanted that.
It was more, though. He wanted to live happily for the rest of his life. The only way he would be able to do that would be if Brent was with him every second of every day. It didn't matter to Chase if they lived in a fucking shed, as long as he had Brent to go cuddle with when he got cold. Brent had agreed to marry him. That meant they were going to spend the rest of their lives together. No matter what happened, they would be in life together.
Chase hadn't gone and picked out rings before he asked Brent to marry him. He had gone before he had come here. He looked in five different stores before he was able to find the perfect set of rings for him and Brent. He obviously hadn't given Brent his yet. Chase had spent quite a bit on them, but he didn't care. He wanted things to be perfect for Brent. He wanted things to be perfect for himself too. He planned on showing Alex the rings when he got back.
When he finally did come back, Chase smiled at his approach and just rolled his eyes. "I grill all the time, I'm not going to burn them." Chase went over to the grill and laid the steaks on the grill and listened to the sizzling. He was used to cooking steaks. He wasn't going to burn them. He might have to watch the chicken closely though.
"I... bought me and Brent's rings this morning. Before I came. I haven't given his to him yet." Chase said without turning around to look at Alex. "Do you wanna see them? I wanted the perfect ones. So I guess I want you to see if they're as perfect as I think they are for us." Chase chuckled, still not taking his eyes away from the grill. The box with the rings sitting in his pocket like a ten pound brick.

Alexander watched the steaks sizzle with a wary eye. They were decent meats. He didn't want to have them wasted because Chase had carelessly burnt them. He supposed he could trust him though... Alex would stay close and alert enough to intervene just in case the steaks were in danger of an ashen death. He did sprinkle some rock salt onto them though so they weren't totally lacking flavour. "Alright then... I'll leave it up to you... I'll busy myself with something else." Alex couldn't sit still when someone else was cooking in his presence. He just wanted to help every time. So he busied himself with the bread and salad, prepping it to be served.
Alex's interest was caught instantly when Chase mentioned his wedding bands. The Spaniard bounced over to him, waving a scary-looking knife around in glee. "Yes! I want to see them!" He squeaked, bobbing up and down excitedly, not letting go of the knife. It probably looked a bit dangerous. "Show me now!"

Chase could only chuckle at Alex. He was antsy right now because Chase was doing the cooking. Chase knew Alex loved to cook, but Chase wasn't a terrible cook. He did it all summer when he lived on his own. He could handle cooking some steaks without burning them. When he thought the steaks looked good on that side, Chase flipped them over with the tongs and turned back to Alex, who was freaking out with a knife in his hand.
"Put the knife down, and I'll show you." Chase laughed at his best friend before getting them out anyways. Knowing he wasn't going to do anything. He passed the box with both rings in them to Alex. "I picked them out from this store in London... and I just thought they were perfect as son as my eyes landed on them." Chase explained as he waited for Alex to open the box and see the rings.

"Hrm...." Alex said, eyeing warily Chase as he flipped the steaks over. He didn't want to be poisoned by not-done-enough meat, thank you. He dipped his fingertips back into the small recipient of rock salt and sprinkled some over the cooked side of the steaks. Prepping bread and salad was boring compared to being the one who kept an eye on the barbecue.
Alex certainly didn't need to be told twice to put the knife down. He sort of just dropped it and it fell with barely a sound onto the grass. With shaking hands, Alex plucked the box from Chase's hands and plopped himself down on the grass. The young man got himself comfortable by tucking his knees snugly under his chin and wrapping his arms around them. Slowly and with shining eyes, Alex opened the box. "Chase...." Alex whispered, falling silent on seeing the bands his friend had purchased for himself and Brent. They were perfect. What with all the musical engravings they had. Just... perfect. Alex shifted around on the grass, getting to his knees instead and holding the box up to Chase. "Marry me instead?"

It was hard to not take his eyes off the steaks as Alex took the box with the rings in it and sat down on the grass to look at them. Chase flipped the steaks once more and sprinkled the salt thing Alex had on the other side before deciding they were done. He put them on the plate next to the grill then turned to see the awed Alex on the ground.
"You wish." Chase laughed as he smiled down at Alex. "My heart is taken, and so is yours." Chase said sternly. Trying to keep a straight face but failing horribly. He was bad at trying to tease like that. He really was. He just shook his head off instead of laughing more and offered his hand down to help Alex up. "C'mon. The steaks are ready. Do you want me to grill this chicken too?" Chase asked, trying not to get too embarrassed by Alex's reaction to the rings.
"But yeah? You like them? Do you think Brent will too?" Chase asked timidly, a small smile creeping onto his lips.

"Only messing around with you, twinkletoes." Alex chuckled, taking Chase's offer of a hand up to his feet. "So don't get your hopes up." He winked and shut the box with a small snap. Alex wandered over to where the steaks were finished, he inspected them for a moment before letting a smile mould his lips into a gentle curve. They looked good. Yummy, even. He knew he shouldn't doubt his friends' cooking prowess but he just couldn't seem to help it. Alex was used to cooking.
"I love the rings, Chase... Brent is so lucky... he's going to fall in love with them." Alex grinned, turning around to face his friend, one hand on a cocked hip and the other holding the box up under his chin. "That is... if he ever sees them... these are mine!" And with that, Alex took off down the courtyard, giggling like a madman. "Come and get me if you waaaant theeeem." Alex sang, glancing over his shoulder to stick his tongue out playfully at Chase.
Alex was pretty fast; his lanky limbs bolting with ease over the grass. He liked to mess around with Chase like this and feel as if he was a big kid for a while. He didn't know if his friend would appreciate using his new rings as bait for him to pursue him. But Alex wasn't clumsy, he hand the velvet box held firmly in his long, nimble fingers.

Chase rolled his eyes at Alex. "You'd be lucky to marry me, you git." Chase laughed as he watched Alex's tone change to even more joking as he started sprinting away from Chase, rings in hand. So Alex wanted to play that game, did he?
"Come back here!" Chase yelled, laughing as he did so. He turned and put the tongs on the grill table thing and took off running. Alex was fast. There was no denying that one, but Chase had one thing going for him, and that was that he was strong. When Chase got closer to Alex, he pushed hard against the ground with his legs and jumped, tackling Alex in the process. Chase pinned him to the ground with ease. "Gimme back the rings, you idiot! Or I'll go back and burn those steaks!" Chase threatened with a laugh. He was hopeless at this.

Alex stole a glimpse over his shoulder to see Chase tearing after him. The young man shrieked with laughter and gave one final, quick burst. Chase caught up to him anyway. With another high-pitched peal of giggles, Alex saw the ground come closer, closer and closer towards him.
"Chase!" Alex squeaked, falling to the ground on his front with a winding thud. "You made me graze my knee! Kiss it better. Now." More giggles. Alex, on his front, wriggled his arms up to his chest, hiding the ring box under him. He wasn't going to give in easily.
"You wouldn't dare burn those steaks... did you know how much they cost?!" Chase wouldn't really burn the meats, would he? Alex couldn't move to see his face to check if he was just pulling his leg or not. He wasn't sure if he wanted to run the risk of him being serious about this.
"Fine... you can have your rings." Alex sighed, not moving though. "But... Chase... if we end up old and lonely, can we be old and lonely together? Would you marry me then?"

Chase sat up when Alex did, laughing with him when he told Chase he had grazed his knee. Rolling his eyes, Chase brought two fingers to his lips and kissed them, then touched Alex's knee with them right after. "There. Is that better, wittle babyyy." Chase teased him with a smile and laugh. He was glad him and Alex were best friends. Sure, he had Brent and he could spend all day long with him, but Chase figured when they were married he would need another friend to get away from Brent for a while. If that stage of their marriage ever happened. He didn't think it would ever get there though, not with him and Brent.
"How did I know that would get you to give me back the rings." Chase laughed as he took the rings from Alex's hand with a shake of his head. "I wouldn't have burned them." Chase said with a smirk. Then when Alex asked him that, Chase's smile went away. He leaned over and wrapped his arms around Alex in a sort of hug. "If we both somehow end up alone when we get older. Whether Reid and Brent leave us, or something happens. Then I'll marry you, Jay." Chase told his best friend seriously before adding with a laugh, "But no sex."

"Yes... much better, gracias." Alex muttered, narrowing his eyes in a playful glare at Chase. "Would've been better if you just used your lips but... I guess that was just as good." He chuckled, peering at his grazed knee whilst prodding at it with his finger. It was just broken skin with some small pricks of blood. He'd live.
Alex reluctantly let Chase pry the ring box from his grasp. They were pretty rings. Something Alex would love to wear since they were musically themed. Brent was definitely a lucky man to have someone that just cared so, so much about him. But Alex had Reid. And his eyes he was even better than Chase and Brent combined because he was his. And only his.
"No sex?!" Alex repeated, aghast. "Why the hell would I marry you then?" He folded his arms firmly across his chest, looking rather unimpressed. He even gave a little pout. Alex seemed as though he wasn't happy with what Chase had said but, in reality, he was a puddle inside. Hopefully he wouldn't have to hold Chase to this little pact that they had forged but... passing the rest of his days bound to his best friend... Alex couldn't think of a better way to end.
Just thinking about it made Alex get all emotional. It was awesomely sweet. Alex swallowed a lump that rose in his throat and got to his feet before it got noticeable. "Let's go eat those steaks before the flies get to them. I am not eating something one of those shit-eating bugs has vomited on." Alex said with a nod, walking with a small limp to where they had everything set up. He had a random urge to hold Chase's hand but that was probably Alex's loved-up, touchy-feely side talking.

Chase laughed. He was only ever like this with Alex and Brent. Not even Reid got to see Chase like that. Chase really didn't spend much time with Reid apart from band practice's and stuff like that. Not as much as he used to at least. "No one gets my lips but Brent." Chase teased Alex. It was fun to do.
"Because I'm charming and downright handsome." Chase answered for him with a smile. It was kind of hilarious actually talking about this. Of course he didn't want it to actually happen because he didn't know if he wanted to live in a world without Brent. But being with his best friend sounded like a good way to die if he couldn't die in Brent's arms.
"Come on then, you big baby." Chase teased before getting up and following Alex to where their food was. It was then that Chase realized he was exceedingly hungry. "These steaks better be as good as you say." He said, keeping the teasing tone in his voice.

"If you're charming and handsome, then I'm Adonis in the flesh." Alex chuckled, giving Chase a playful shove sideways. He put a bit of effort into the push though since it took quite a bit to move Chase. "And I'm not a big baby." Alex said with a small whine. Okay, so maybe even his reply was a bit babyish but who cared? Alex certainly didn't care. Did babies drink beer? No, he didn't think so. He grinned cheekily as he opened a can with a hiss of bubbles.
"They are as good as I say. Unless you've ruined them. When it comes to food I don't like to cut corners. You should know that." Alex sighed, taking a deep drink of his beer and setting it on the grass. He stabbed one of the meats at random and passed it onto a cute, ceramic plate, adding some bread and a decent dollop of pasta salad. For a little guy, he could eat quite a bit when he felt like it.
Alex plopped himself down on his stripy towel, crossing his legs and balancing his plate on them. "I don't know why we don't do this more often." Alex grinned, digging a knife and fork into the steak and cutting himself a bit. "It really sucks how much time I have to spend at Mungo's... I haven't written anything decent in a while now."

Chase gave him a cheeky grin before winking. "What if you were Adonis in the flesh?" Chase laughed at Alex. Chase was completely in bliss. He didn't think he could be anymore happy than he was right now. He was engaged to Brent, he was eating steaks on the grill with Alex. He was going to talk to Brent about a baby. Things were going to be awesome.
"I didn't ruin anything. These steaks are cooked perfectly." Chase told him cockily as he put a steak on his plate and followed Alex in putting pasta salad on it as well. He grabbed a fork and knife and sat down on the ground across from Alex so he was facing him.
Chasecut his meat and took a bite. Okay, Alex had been right. These steaks were amazing. "We should have a cook out with everyone soon. But I suppose everything is going to be busy now with the wedding and everything." Chase said, he tried to make it sound like a bad thing but couldn't help but smile. "Take a pen and paper with you to work?" Chase suggested. He didn't have that problem. Summer vacation was coming soon, and it couldn't come fast enough.

"Well, then if you're saying I am in fact Adonis then..." Alex trailed off and seemed to inspect a small corner of his steak with interest. "...you're just trying to get in my pants, twinkletoes." He said off-handedly, shrugging and chewing placidly on the piece he had just been surveying. Alex doubted Chase would let this one slide so he prepared himself for a sarky response.
"A barbecue with everyone sounds like an awesome idea." Alex grinned, now attacking his salad with bread. To be honest, the whole band sharing this moment he was enjoying with Chase would be the best. Alex could picture it now... Reid stretched out on the grass leisurely, Brent assaulting some poor guy's guitar and belting out some tunes, Alex would be at the grill and Chase... well... Alex could only picture him either breathing down his neck about cooking the meat or sat on the grass, legs crossed, and making goo-goo eyes at Brent. "Because if you guys start getting serious about planning this wedding, you'll need some way to maybe unwind? And work sometimes gets Reid so worked up... poor nene... he hardly gets to see you guys..."
When Alex was younger and still a bit of a dreamer, he had been convinced that their music was that good that when older they'd be touring their music together on a tour bus. Yes, bus, that was a major part of the whole band experience, being forced together in small living quarters and literally stepping on each other's toes. Funny how not everything you plan works out. "I'd like to get back on stage, Chase. I think that's what I need... we work so hard on our music for it just to be for our ears only. I feel like its all going stale. We need to play again."

Chase winked at Alex. "Darn. you caught me. I want in your pants soooo bad. How'd ya figure it out?" Chase laughed as he took a bite of his food. That was like far from the truth, but Chase would let Alex think whatever he wanted to, of course.
"Yeah! I know! It's sad. I never get to hang out with Reid anymore. I mean... I know I was always closest to Brent. And now I'm closer to you and I still don't talk to him much anymore. Apart from band practices, normally. Or group things." Chase told Alex with adorable sad puppy dog eyes. It made him upset. He missed Reid.
Chase thought about what Alex said. He wanted to get back on stage too, he supposed. It was different thought. "We're not young anymore, Alex. Me and Brent are getting married. You and Reid are getting serious. Do we have time to get on stage again?" Chase asked him. It wasn't that he didn't want to. It was that he didn't know if it was possible.
