Merlin, Alex loved sunny days like these. They were perfect for trying to get a tan. Trying. Despite his Spanish descent he couldn't quite get that olive glow that other members of his family had. He didn't mind too much though. He liked being pale, so long it didn't border on sickly-looking. But it did mean he needed to be careful with the sun's rays - the day Alex got burnt would be an upsetting day indeed.
Outstretched on a stripy towel, armed with a beer and sandwich filled cooler and smelling of sunscreen, Alex was catching some rays in the courtyard to his building. If he could have it his way, he'd probably do it completely unclothed but... his neighbours probably wouldn't be too pleased. Or maybe they would... Alex didn't want to take the risk. He had rolled the short legs up a couple of times and had tugged the waistband down until it was bordered between indecent and socially accepted.
Days like these were the ones that made the week worthwhile. The only thing that would make it more perfect would be having some company to share his beers with.
"Quizás, quizás, quizás." Alex hummed to himself, tossing aside another empty can into his cooler and rolling round onto his front. He was so content that purring was a big possibility.

Chase wanted to go talk to Alex because he wanted to tell Alex that Brent and him were now engaged. Chase wasn't sure if they were telling people yet, but Alex was always different. There was no secrets between him and Alex. There were no secrets in the band what so ever. Chase loved that. Thought it was the best thing in the world.
Chase didn't have any classes this afternoon, and decided to go and tell him today. He couldn't wait any longer and Brent had just agreed to it last night. Too long. Chase walked across the hallway to Alex's apartment with a smile on his face, passing the window that looked out into the courtyard.
There was a half naked man laying on a towel in the sun. He knew right away that it was Alex. Without a doubt. It was an Alex thing to do. Chase smiled wider before going to the courtyard, trying to be quiet about it.
A smirk was on his face as he tip toed to his best friend before pouncing on him. "Whatcha doinnn!?" Chase asked with a smile as he moved to straddle him on the ground playfully.

Alex was snugging his head into the crook his arm made at the elbow when Chase had spotted him. Alex didn't even know what was coming. Being caught so off guard by Chase's pounce, the wind was taken right out of him with a loud "oof" noise. His honey brown eyes blinked open immediately, ignoring the dull ache now in his chest and back - someone was assaulting him. And now... they were sitting on his butt.
This wasn't awkward in the slighest. Alex squirmed about and craned his head round to identify his attacker. The young man groaned and rolled his eyes, relieved. It was only Chase. For a moment there he had thought he was in trouble. Alex flumped forwards onto his stripy towel.
"I hate you." Alex moaned. "Someone's in a good mood... I was trying to soak up sun while it lasts. And beer and sandwiches." He wriggled a hand free and pointed weakly in the direction of his black icebox. Chase should know by now that that was the equivalent of an invitation to help himself.
"Chase..." Alex muttered, his voice strained. "You're... squashing me."

Chase knew Alex was offering him beer or a sandwich, but he didn't feel like drinking at the moment. Life was amazing. Life was awesome. Life didn't need booze. "I am happy!" Chase exclaimed before laughing and rolling off of Alex. He sat on the ground next to him in the Indian style.
"I have never been as happy as I am right now." It was true. He would just say why he was happy, but he'd let the suspense build up a bit first. "My life seems to finally be turning around and looking up for me. For the first time ever." Chase knew that Alex wasn't stupid. He would probably know it was something to do with Brent, but probably not that they were engaged. They really hadn't been together for very long, but Chase had been in love since he was in Hogwarts, and Brent for who knows when.
He gave his best friend a huge smile that he hoped would never leave his face.

Chase was in a good mood. He seemed to glow with delight. Alex was intrigued. He sat up once his ecstatic friend rolled off him and fished out a crab salad sandwich and a beer for himself. He sat crossed legged in front of Chase and raised a slender eyebrow in question while he scrunched up the tin foil in his hand.
"Well? You going to share the good news?" Alex snickered, pausing to take a huge bite out of his sandwich. "Or you gonna be cruel and keep me in the dark?" He washed down the mouthful with some cool beer - Merlin, he loved sunny days like these. And now he had company. It just made it all the more better.
"Get a raise in your pay packet? Something bad happen to Maryn? Brent letting you keep a Thestral as a pet?" Alex's lips twisted into a small smile; Chase's incredibly merry mood was very contagious. He tugged up his shorts which were sagging slightly on his small frame and got comfortable. "Well? You going to spill the beans?" Alex prodded Chase playfully in the side with one hand while picking up his small bottle of sunscreen. He squirted a little dollop onto his hand with a squelchy-farting noise. Being the grown up adult that he was... Alex giggled childishly.

Chase laughed at the thestral thing. "Yeah right. He didn't even like Charlie. And he's named after his favorite thing!" Chase laughed. Then got an idea how to tell him. "Mayyyybee. I can convince Brent to get a dog once we move in together." Chase smirked at Alex as he squirted sun tan lotion in his hand.
"You know. Because we're getting married." Chase said with a huge smile, waiting for Alex to react from him telling him that he and Brent were getting married. He still couldn't believe it himself. Chase hoped that Alex wasn't still in the mindset that Chase shouldn't have forgave Brent for him cheating on him. He didn't care, of course. There was nothing in the world that could make Chase break off this engagement.
"I asked him, Alex. And he agreed. We're getting married!" Chase practically screamed, felling more like a girl than he had ever felt before.

Brent didn't like Charlie? Alex's face darkened for a small moment while he rubbed lotion onto his cheeks, forehead, chin and nose. If Charlie was the sweetest, furry thing ever? That was, of course, if you forgot about Tootie. Now she was most definitely the sweetest, furry thing ever.
Chase had caught Alex's interest again when he said something about moving in with Brent. Wait... what? His amber eyes widened a small fraction and were focused on his friend. His eyes grew even more larger when Chase said getting married. Because, fuck, that was... that was...
"WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME SOONER?!" Alex matched Chase's scream and flung himself at his friend. It was impossible for his smile to be wider. This was incredible news! His two best friends tieing the knot together! It was just... awesome. Alex's heartbeat was skipping along at a merry pace while he attack-hugged Chase.
"You're getting fucking married?!" Alex laughed, not caring in the slightest that he was getting traces of sunscreen on his friend's clothes. He pulled back to stare at Chase, his face flushed and eyes glimmering with nothing but glee at the news. He couldn't be happier for his friends; Alex knew how much they loved each other. "You? ...And Brent? Married? Like actual... rings on fingers? Dios mío..."

Chase squealed with Alex as he lunged forward to hug his friend. He was glad Alex seemed to be happy about this. "It just happened! Last night! I took him out on a date... we went to a restaurant, and then we were in a park. We were supposed to be star gazing on the blanket..." Chase said, remember the night perfectly. He would never forget it.
"But we weren't really looking at the stars very much. I just... I had thought about it before. So I just asked him. He said yes. And we celebrated by making out before Brent demanded we leave the public park." Chase chuckled, not caring that Alex might be grossed out by that.
He smiled wickedly. "Yes. With rings. And vows. and everything! We're getting married, Alex!" Chase practically screamed. "And I want you to be my best man." Chase smiled, hoping Alex would say yes to that.

Alex clasped his hands tightly together under his chin while Chase told him, more or less, how the night had gone. Dinner date, walk in the park, star gazing on a blanket... Alex sighed lightly. Chase was a perfect man. Brent was really lucky to have him. He knew that Chase would pull out all stops to see a smile grace his fiancé's lips. Chase was just that type of guy. "Demanded you leave the public park for celebratory sex perhaps?" Alex snickered a bubble of laughter. He was in no way grossed out.
The young man was literally bobbing up and down crossed-legged, letting the mushy-lovey-goodness affect him. Alex was delighted. This was real. Two of his best friends were getting married with suits and rings and vows and flowers and cake and everything. Alex's slender he totally didn't pluck them eyebrows disappeared into the fringe of wavy hair he sported.
"Best... man?" He managed to choke out, leaving his mouth just slightly open in "wowohmymerlin". After staring unblinkingly at Chase for a moment, Alex suddenly burst into life again, throwing himself at Chase and hugging him with a vice-like grip. "Yes! Yes! Yes! Sí! Sí! Sí! Of course I'll be your best man! Just... wow.... wow, Chase. We're going to have a wedding!"

Chase smirked at Alex when he guessed exactly what he and Brent had done. "Yeah. We uh. Couldn't wait. We went back to my house. Which is something we've never gone in. I uh.. tend to stay away from my house as much as I can." Chase said with a sheepish grin. He stayed at Hogwarts for most of the summer. He didn't like going home with all the memories.
Chase's smile grew even bigger when Alex hugged him then agreed to be his best man. "I wouldn't want anyone else right there next to me, man." He mumbled into Alex's ear while they were hugging. "Let's celebrate. How about a cookout? With beer and everything? I dont' have any more classes to teach today. So I'm cool to be here all night." Chase said with a huge smile. Brent might go looking for him, but Chase imagined that Brent would think that he had gone to tell Alex. It was an obvious idea.

Alex's expression softened and grew more tender when Chase mentioned his house. Many things had happened there. And most of them wouldn't exactly be good memories. If there was ever a time when someone's house wasn't their home, this was when. Chase's house was in no way his home. "You should sell that house, twinkletoes." Alex pursed his lips in a small little pout. "So you can really start afresh with Brent. Y'know, nothing material to tie you to things that're in the past now."
Alex nodded, as if he were agreeing with himself. This would be something he would do if he were in Chase's place. But Alex didn't even own a house or flat. He had been paying rent since he had moved out, plus he doubted his parents would actually leave him anything when they came to pass. Shame though. They had a nice villa back by the seaside in Spain. Alex was saving up though for something he could call "his". He had gone to the bank once to get information on mortgages and had came out more confused then when he had gone it. Alex had decided to save up some more and then look about rooting himself somewhere.
Alex felt a smile creep across his face when Chase mentioned a cookout. He now craved meat on an open fire. Drool. He had some defrosted meat in the freezer that was waiting for be marinated, so that could work. And some chicken legs. And some potato salad and baguettes. "That sounds like an awesome idea." Alex said, chugging down the rest of his beer. He loved how Chase would only drink in the company of his friends for not wanting to take after his abusive father. It was something that Alex admired in a way. Since it was something he just would not be able to do.
"And just us two again, eh? Brent's gonna start worrying soon if you're out with me every weekend." And talking about weekend... an idea sparked in his dreamy little head. Alex's amber eyes twinkled merrily and he clapped his nimble hands together. "Chase... bachelor party! I want to plan it! Pleasepleasepleasepleaseporfaporfaporfaporfaaaa!!!"

Chase knew Alex was right. He knew that he needed to get out of his house. Knew he needed to get away from one of the only things that still made him sad. "Yeah... I guess you're right. I don't spend much time there anyways. Even in the summer. I'm normally at Brent's or I stay at the castle. When me and Brent went to my house it was the first time I'd been there in a long time." Chase told him honestly because smiling at him. "It's weird having someone else know about what happened."
"I'll talk to Brent about seeing if he wants to just buy a house together. Since I don't think his house will be big enough..." Chase said, clearly in thought in his head. "I think... I'm going to talk to Brent about adopting a baby. Since we can't have one of our own." Chase smiled, thinking about himself being a father.
"I'm not worried about Brent. He won't care. As long as I don't start making out with you." Chase chuckled. He and alex were just good buddies. "You got a grill? Or do we have to be cave men and make a fire?" Chase laughed at the thought of that.
Chase honestly hadn't thought about a bachelor's party. "Yeah.. sure you can plan it. Isn't that a Best Man's job anyways?" Chase laughed at Alex and how excited he was.

Chase and Brent sharing a new house together sounded so adorable. It would definitely be the fresh start Alex wanted Chase to have. He was puzzled though when he said Brent's house wasn't going to be enough... That place was at least three times bigger than Alex's rented flat if you included the garden the bungalow had. When Chase mentioned adopting Alex's breath caught in his throat.
"A b-ba-b... un bebé?!" Alex whispered in disbelief. This was all happening so suddenly. His friends were growing up and actually settling down. They were getting married, getting a house together, adopting a fucking kid... Alex was happy for them. They were going to do everything Alex would probably never have a chance to do. It was a bit saddening too. Would Alex ever be capable of standing on an altar uttering nervously "until death do us part" to someone? He liked to think so. Did Reid even think Alex'd be mature enough for such a commitment? ....probably not.
"Hey, you do know that most sex lives after marriage end up fizzling down so.... If I were Brent I'd worry." Alex niggled Chase in the side with a pointy elbow. "It starts off like this. Then, before you know it, besitos everywhere." The young man got to his feet with a snicker. He'd never do that though. And he hoped that Chase already knew that. Alex would never ever be the one to ruin their marriage. Plus, Alex had a feeling that he and Reid were going to last a long time.
"If you get in a loincloth, I'll let you do it the caveman way. But... I prefer my way." There was an old grill stood in the corner and Alex dragged it over to the grass. Whipping out his wand, he casted incendio and stuffed it away in one, quick, fluid movement. The young man smiled triumphantly when golden flames were born in the rusty basin.
"I'll get meats now. As for your stag night... I'll make sure it'll be a night you won't forget. Are you sure you want me to plan it? How much freedom do I get? Is there anything that's a big no-no?"

Chase smiled just thinking about it. "I've dreamed of this all my life Alex... I've thought of the things I want with Brent, and a baby is one. Even if we can't actually make one. I think adopting would be amazing. Now I just need to get Brent to agree with it. He already thinks if he takes Tommy in it'll end up in disaster." Chase looked up at Alex after he got done talking.
"Don't worry. I don't think our sex life will ever slow down. I don't think I'll let it." Chase laughed, having no shame in telling Alex that. He was his best friend. They weren't supposed to be shy about that kind of stuff. So Chase wasn't going to be.
Chase just shook his head and stood up and watched Alex light the grill. "You go get the meat, and I'll grill it. You know. What with me being the man." Chase smirked. "And you get free reign. I don't care what you do. And I'll pay for everything, of course."

Alex peered at Chase's stomach and then at his own. Wouldn't it be weird if they could actually make babies? He tugged at his shirt and tried to imagine himself with a bump. Alex just couldn't see it happening. It was impossible to picture himself with anything other than the flat stomach he had right now. The young man looked over at Chase's stomach... "I could picture you pregnant, twinkletoes." Alex shrugged, invading Chase's personal space to lift up his shirt to reveal his tummy and compare it to his own. "Brent'll do fine with kids. He's just out of practice, that's all."
Alexander snickered when Chase spoke about his post-marriage sex life with Brent. "I won't let it either." Before Chase had a chance to think wrongly about what Alex had just said he quickly added: "I think I could handle some kids for a weekend if you ever just need some adult alone time."
"You're the man?" The Spaniard repeated, making a small scoff noise. Chase was still poking fun at him for having maybe a couple of effeminate tendencies? This man was mean. "Because you're going to cook the food because you're the man? Last time I checked you'd take the mickey because I enjoy cooking." Alex rolled his eyes at Chase before walking away. That man had certain traits that bordered on being the least bit masculine. "Whatever you say, papi."
Around ten minutes later, Alex was bounding back into the courtyard with the steaks, chicken legs, pasta salad, bread and some sauces. He placed the food on the small, plastic table by the grill after wiping it down thoroughly. "You can grill if you insist but... burn anything and we'll be grilling your testicles instead."
