"And it only took you... how many years to realize that?" Alex said with an expressive roll of his eyes. Had Chase said this, and meant it, a few years back Alex would've gladly made him a happy man for a night. But things had changed drastically. Nowadays the only man that got in Alex's pants was his boyfriend, Reid. No one else. Just him. "But, alas, I am a taken man. And so are you. It can never be, Chase Jackson. Never."
Alex chuckled on seeing his friend's puppy eyes. They could melt the coldest of hearts, so Alex liked to think, because they were just adorable. Not like he'd let Chase onto this though. He lazily flicked a piece of pasta in his friend's direction to get him to just stop looking at him like that. "You should really talk to him more. I think the poor soul can only take so much of me." Reid, tired of Alex? Never. But... he still considered the possibility. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad if Reid had some none-Alex time... just to unwind. "You and Brent should corner him and force him to enjoy your company. That'll probably work." Alex chuckled at the thought of both Brent and Chase barging into his flat, kidnapping Reid and forcing the man to share beers, play cards, jam to music or whatever the three would get up to in Alex's absence.
"Chase... I'm twenty-five. Twenty-fucking-five. You talk as if I'm already sprouting grey hairs. Which I'm not... if you're wondering." Another expressive roll of his gentle amber eyes because what Chase was saying was just stupid. "There's always time to get back on stage. And if there isn't, time should be made for it. Because... fuck... didn't you feed on being on stage? There was nothing more inspiring than being blinded by lights, cooked alive from sheer body heat and singing secrets out to anyone willing to hear... Chase... I need to get back on stage."

"Better late than never is what I always say, eh ya little Spaniard?" Chase laughed as he cut another piece of meat and stuffed it into his mouth. He was already starting to get full, but he wouldn't be a man if he didn't stuff his face to finish this. "I could have you if I want. You're just lucky I'm in love with Brent." Chase joked. He wouldn't even think about leaving Brent or trying to steal Alex from Reid.
"I'm sure Reid isn't even getting tired of you yet." Chase said seriously. He saw the way Reid looked at Alex. He was head over heals in love with that man. It was obvious. "But we'll kidnap him sometime. So if he doesn't come over one night... you'll know it was us." Chase winked evilly. "Now don't throw pasta at me!" Chase said rather loudly as he set his plate on the ground next to him and rocked forward on his knees. He quickly pried Alex's plate from his fingers and placed it next to him before tackling him gently and playfully. Chase knew if he ever wanted to have fun, Alex would make sure he did.
Chase rolled off Alex almost immediately but laid back on the grass and made sure Alex laid with him. He reached over and grabbed Alex's hand, lacing his fingers through it easily. It wasn't anything big. Just two friends holding hands. Girls did it all the time. "I get what you mean, Alex. Being onstage was everything for me when we started it so long ago. We'll figure out a way to get back on stage. Even if it's just one show or something. Maybe after the wedding we can write more and see if we can go big again. It might get harder to keep it secret, though." Chase told him. He really did miss being on stage. It would be amazing to get back out there.

"Have me if you wanted? Chase!" Alex began to chuckle, tapping his friend on his upper arm as if to scold him for what he had just said. "Maybe not now. But before you always did." There was a certain truth in Alex's words. He had passed the majority of his teenage life crushing Chase from the side lines. So, in a way, he could've easily had Alex whenever he wanted back then. But not now. Definitely not now. That had been just a teenage crush. Alex was in love with Reid. And no amount of silly, innocent flirting would change that.
Alex gave Chase a weird look when his plate was taken off him. He hadn't finished yet! He managed to swallow the mouthful of pasta salad he was munching on before he was tackled backwards by Chase. Alex gave a small cry of protest before just giving up and giggling uncontrollably. Blame the beer all you wanted but Alex couldn't ask for a better friend. He was snuggly, had his adorable moments, was caring, knew how to be playful, didn't mind flirtatiousness and enjoyed sharing beers with Alex.
"It doesn't have to be anything big... even that music bar by my house where they do jam nights." Alex said, glancing down at his hand when their fingers threaded together. He could feel himself melting inside. Alex turned his head and gazed straight up into the clear, azure sky, dotted with cotton clouds that marched lazily along. "See how it goes and just take it from there. It doesn't have to be anything serious either... just the band, having some fun on stage again. Plus some people are bound to remember us."

Ever since Chase had found out that Alex was crushing on him their entire lives. They had been best friends since early in their hogwarts years. It wasn't anything like they were now, but they were still friends. Chase had never thought about the possibility of Alex liking him. Chase was too busy trying to bring Brent over to his team. He was in love with him back then.
Chase rolled over on his side, keeping their hands together. He put his free hand on the opposite side of Alex so he was hovering over him in a way. He kissed Alex's check softly. "I'm sorry I was so blind in school, Alex." Chase whispered. He felt like he needed to say it. He apologized before, but they hadn't been this close then. They had gotten close after Alex had confessed it to Chase, but not before. Which was kind of weird and backwards, but Chase wasn't complaining. "I'm not saying that if I wasn't blind, anything would have happened. I think that Reid and Brent are our soul mates. I'm just sorry I was stupid." Chase felt bad about hurting Alex. He didn't like hurting anyone.
He leaned back down on the grass beside Alex and squeezed his hand. "I'll talk to Brent about it, but I'm sure he'll be game. He loves anything that has to do with music." Chase laughed fondly. "And I'm sure some people will know who we are still. If we play our hits."

When Chase shifted beside him, Alex didn't really think much about it. But when the larger man cast a shadow over him, Alex gave him a puzzled look. Slight panic bubbled inside him as his friend drew closer and closer to his face. Now would be a good time to say that he hadn't meant it when he had flirted with him, that he had Reid and that Chase was engaged. Colour crept steathily into Alex's cheeks, expecting something awkward to go afoot.
But Alex's worries were pointless. Exhaling slowly when Chase only gave him a gentle peck on the cheek. That wasn't so bad. Alex even smiled when his friend apologized for how things had turned out back in Hogwarts. "You can't say sorry for not liking me... well... you can and you should. Because, really, who wouldn't pass up nice food, snuggles and good sex? That's... not the point though." Alex rolled onto his side and rested his head on Chase's upper arm. "If you didn't like me, you didn't like me. I should've just accepted it better." Maybe then he wouldn't of gone on what seemed like a two-year bender and met countless guys along the way. Plus Jackie. Alex shivered on the thought. "But, seriously now Chase, it just wasn't meant to be then. You were crazily in love with Brent. Nothing would of changed that. And... I'm glad things have turned out this way." Alex had the best boyfriend ever, was closer than ever to Chase and Chase was getting married to Brent. Things had worked out for the best in the end.
"We'll just have to make sure he doesn't drink too much before he gets on stage." Alex chuckled. He had been one that had arrived at practice worse for wear on quite a few occasions. But when it came to playing live Alex took no chances and would be sober throughout the whole event. Then after he'd drink away the nerves, success or failure. "And I'll talk to Reid... see if work isn't too much for him."

Alex's reaction to Chase leaning over him was kind of priceless. What did he think he was going to do, prove that Chase could get him if he really wanted to? That would be funny, but he could never do that to Reid or Brent. "Yeah. I guess things turned out for the better in the end, it still doesn't change that I made you resent me because I wasn't even looking your way." Chase told him.
He quickly switched the hands that were intertwined to the hands that weren't next to the other. He grabbed Alex's hand and rested it on his stomach while he moved the arm that was next to Alex up so he could wrap his arm around him. "Ya know. If anyone see's us, they're going to think we're a couple and not best friends." Chase chuckled. "Yet I don't care. I love our relationship." Chase told him honestly.
"Let's hope Reid can get off enough to do this. I think it actually sounds fun." Chase smiled down at Alex. "And I can't promise Brent won't drink lots." Chase laughed fondly. He could attempt to hide the beer, he supposed.

"I never resented you for it, silly." Alex chuckled, letting Chase shift their hands and bodies into another comfortable embrace on the grass. This was heaven, it really was. Here Alex was, snugged into his best friend's side, stomach filled with yummy food and a hazy, beer-induced tiredness fogging his brain. All under the gentle afternoon sun. "Felt a bit like second-best but I got over it. I actually thought no one would like me, y'know. But... there were a few guys that proved me wrong. You missed your chance. I actually feel bad for you." Alex teased innocently, shifting his head so he could lightly place it on Chase. His friend was so comfortable.
"They can think what they like. My neighbours are used to it. I think only one or two has caught on that I've got an actual boyfriend for once." And the ones that knew that were his immediate neighbours and the nosey ones. But they honestly could think what they liked. Alex's friendship towards Chase was of no concern to them. "I like this, too. I love just snuggling like this."
Alex brought up his other hand to play with the tips of Chase's hair, toying with his locks teasingly as he would do with Reid. There was something comforting in it, too. It relaxed Alex as strange as it sounded. Sleep had its eye on the Spaniard. Soon enough he'd be in its clutches.
"I wouldn't want Brent or Reid to see us... they seem the more possessive out of us four." Alex said with a light chuckle. His voice was airy now, almost dreamy and very light. "But... we're not doing anything wrong.... just snuggling.... I like snuggles... they make me tired... this towel is comfortable... and so are you." Alex was rambling, as he did when he was half-asleep. And, before he knew it, he drifted off, half across Chase's chest and warmed by both his body and the sun on his back. Alex loved Chase. A whole lot more that the man would ever know.

"You were never second best... there was no second best, because in my mind there was only ever one option." Chase explained in a whisper. He still felt bad about it, no matter what Alex told him. If he would have realized Alex's feelings, then he could have at least tried something with him so when it didn't work, Chase wouldn't feel as terrible as now. Then again. If they had tried something, would they be friends right now? Probably not.
"Snuggles are the best. Me and Brent snuggle sometimes. But normally we can't keep our mouths off each other. It's nice to not have that and to just snuggle." Chase laughed as he tried to pull Alex even closer. Chase could tell that Alex was tired. So he just let him talk. Eventually, Chase knew that Alex would talk himself to sleep. Sometime between the random talking and him actually falling asleep, Chase hummed one of his favorite songs. It was one of their own. Trade Mistakes. It had always been one of his favorites. The humming only died when Chase finally joined Alex in dream land. Them cuddling on the Earth floor.
