Rayne snapped her head around when she heard Brent's voice echo through the trophy room. When she turned to look at him, she thought her heart was about ready to stop beating. Literally. Brent was... smiling. She knew this had been a dream! There was no way she would actually blush in real life because of something a guy she had just met said. Right.... "Of... course I've learned my lesson, Professor..."
Rayne said, not meaning it one bit. Seeing Nyxie's head turn toward her, she looked at him and smiled back. "Works for me, Nyxie. I'm starving." Rayne could always eat more than any of her friends. She was a girl that loved her food, yet always kept her extremely slim figure. She wasn't complaining. She loved food. "Bye, Professor!" Rayne said as she went over and grabbed Nyxie's hand and dragging him out of the trophy room. She wanted fooooood. [/blockquote]
Phoenix never protested when Rayne grabbed his hand to whisk him away from Brent. Their quick exit was probably for the best. Who knew if he were to suddenly have a change of heart and have them finish the rest of the trophies or something. On entering the kitchens they had been greeted by the many house elves that worked there for Hogwarts. When he said that they had been sent down to grab a bite of something to eat they were more than eager to force the leftovers from the dinner sitting on them. Phoenix couldn't exactly refuse. He was hungry. And he guessed that Rayne was too. He went and sat on the ground before the fireplace, patting the ground beside him for Rayne to sit. "I feel like I haven't eaten in three days.... or more!" The teen exaggerated before biting into a piece of pie. He chewed, swallowed and took a long drink of pumpkin juice before talking again. "I'd say that detention went by pretty fast. I don't usually get such good company."[/blockquote]

Rayne swore she smiled all the way down to the kitchens. Maybe it was the fact she was going to eat finally, or maybe because she was with Phoenix. She didn't really know. She was just in a plain happy mood. When she walked in the kitchens, she was greeted by the familiar faces of all her house elf friends. They were used to making her food and such. Mostly ice cream as she would come for dessert a lot. They made the best sundaes.
Rayne grabbed her food from the elves with a polite thank you and went over to sit next to Phoenix. Smiling up at him and chewing the bite she had already shoved in her mouth, she nodded in agreement. "I know. I'm not used to actually liking the people I'm paired with."
She laughed before rocking slightly so she could push into his shoulder. Which was a few inches talker seeing as she was kind of on the short side. She wasn't a midget though. "So besides music, what do you like to do, Nyxie?" She asked before putting another bite in her mouth. God she was hungry. [/blockquote]

Phoenix joined her bubble of laughter with his own lower one, pushing against her nudge with his own shoulder. But he was glad that she thought the same way. The teen smiled into his next bite of food. He could seeTh them striking up a formidable friendship. They already seemed to get on so well... and they'd only known each other for a few hours. "We certainly got lucky tonight." He grinned after washing down more food with some pumpkin juice. "I bet Mack hasn't had as good a time as I am." Phoenix chuckled. He wondered for a moment how his friend was faring and if he had finished yet. And then he thought no more about his friend. Which was strange, even for him. Usually Mack was the only thing on his mind. "I don't really do too much..." Phoenix realized that had sounded rather pathetic and face palmed. "Well... there's guitar, singing. And I do enjoy playing Quidditch every so often. And I like to go out for drinks and that. The rest of the time... I'm catching up on work." Catching up on work that he couldn't do because Mack had dragged him off someplace. "And what about you, Rayski?"[/blockquote]

Rayne liked the company of Phoenix. She didn't know why exactly, but she really did. His smile was contagious. "Is anyone having as much fun as us?"
She joked with him before taking another bite and then taking a long swig of her pumpkin juice. "I get what you mean... School work always takes up a lot of time." Rayne laughed. She liked doing well in school, so she always made sure her homework was done. Didn't mean she liked doing it. Did anyone? "Rayski?! Where did you come up with that nickname?!" Rayne asked him with a laugh. It was kind of cute. "I really don't do much either... I like sneaking out past curfew to go lay of the grass and look at the stars. I love all those twinkling things in the world. And there is just something about that fact that anyone could be looking at the same things you are that just makes it so wonderful, ya know?" Rayne told him before blushing, realizing that she just told him something that most people didn't know. [/blockquote]

"Yes. Rayski. It'll be my name for you." Phoenix snickered, inhaling some more food. He was ravenous. After all that trophy polishing all he wanted was a good meal in good company and then a good sleep. The teen didn't care if the girl didn't approve of this new nickname, it sounded a bit like "risky" and, by the looks of it, risks were something the girl didn't mind. Plus it sounded like Rayne and Skye mixed into one. Phoenix's expression softened slightly on hearing her say what she liked to do when she ventured out after curfew. It was really sweet and cute. One of those things that gave him the impulse to just huggle her and squeeze her until she popped. Okay, maybe not that much, but the idea was the same. "I hope you don't mind having company next time... it sounds so... nice." Phoenix smiled, taking a long drink of juice. "But I get what you mean. Like, the moon. Of a night, we see it. And its the same moon for everyone. It makes me feel close to home, in a way."[/blockquote]

Rayne rolled her eyes at him and smiled. "Whatever you say, Nyxie."
She giggled a bit. She actually thought that name was cute. She wasn't objecting at all, it was just a bit random. Rayne could deal with random, though. She could still feel the blush on her cheeks. She tried getting rid of it, but she still couldn't believe she had told him that. She hadn't told anyone that. No one. Not even one of her best friends. Yet she told a guy she had just met. She supposed it couldn't do any harm. "Sure. I think it might be nice with some company." She smiled again at him. "And yeah... it makes me wonder if my mom is looking at the stars too." She smiled sadly. She missed her family, but she didn't miss her town. She turned away from Nyxie and took another bite of pie. She had eaten quite a bit of it. She could feel herself getting full. [/blockquote]

Phoenix glanced over at Rayne. Her cheeks were pink and her smile looked rather.. upset. So not like the other Rayne he had been with a few moments earlier. The teen felt like he had to cheer her up some way. He didn't like seeing her like this. Without thinking twice, Phoenix leaned over and placed a hand on her knee, giving it a firm rub. "Hey...its okay." Phoenix offered the girl a smile. "I miss my family, too." Did he hug her? Or was it too soon in their friendship for that? It probably was but he scooted closer to her on his butt so he was next right next to her, staring into the fireplace that crackled and hissed with life. "D'ya wanna meet up again tomorrow?" He gave her a cheeky nudge in the ribs with his elbow. "But not in detention, hear me. I don't want the only times I see you being in the company of silver polish or some other crap like that, m'kay?"

Rayne's smile grew wider when she felt Nyxie's hand on her knee. It actually did comfort her. Sometimes she felt childish for missing her parents like she did sometimes. She was 16, she shouldn't miss them. But truthfully, she had been away from them since she was eleven for more than half the year.
"Thanks. But don't worry. I'm not gonna break out in tears on you."
Rayne but the real smile back on her face as she joked with him. She didn't let the notice go that Phoenix had scooted closer to her. She felt her eyes drooping down. She was getting tired. She leaned against Phoenix's arm and put her head on his shoulder. Not caring that she had just met him, all she was caring about was how tired she was. Rayne was never shy about these kinds of things. "That sounds good. But no promises on the detentions." She laughed. "What did you have in mind?" [/blockquote]

"Good. I hope not. Girl tears are heart-breaking." Although the teen said it with a merry laugh, brushing it off as a joke, it held a bit of truth in it. Phoenix was the kind of guy that couldn't bare to see any girl, or guy for that matter, shed tears. It was something that just couldn't be allowed. It was upsetting to see. He'd go to great lengths to make sure that his friends didn't get down in the dumps. "If I find that you've got detention... I'll have to get myself into trouble." Phoenix grinned, sipping on his juice, debating on whether or not to have a slice of cheesecake. "If its what it takes to be able to meet up with you again... I'll do it." He peered down at the girl who was resting again his upper arm and his grin softened into a more tender one, his stomach accomplishing a series of somersaults. He only really felt this way... around Mackenzie. "I'm good with about anything...I'm easy to please that way." Phoenix shrugged with one shoulder, not wanting to disturb the girl. She seemed comfortable. And so did Phoenix in that moment. Oddly comfortable. "There's the grounds... the lake... towers... classrooms... anywhere you'd like."[/blockquote]

Rayne laughed with him. She wasn't one to cry a lot. Not at all actually. She just didn't like crying. She didn't know why or anything. It was just how she was. "I agree. They are."
She said with another laugh. When Phoenix said what he had said next, Rayne turned a bit to look up at him, still keeping her head on his shoulder of course. "You'd do that for me?" She smiled up brightly at him. "I think the lake sounds good." She smiled. She looking up at him. His eyes were such a pretty color. She thought she could stare at them all day. Was that normal? Rayne didn't entirely know. Which was weird. For some reason, she couldn't stop looking in his eyes, yet she could feel the blush coming back for that reason. What was wrong with her...[/blockquote]

Phoenix couldn't help but think he wouldn't just do that for Rayne, it would do much more for his new friend. The thought scared him in a way. He had only known her for one evening yet... it felt like he had known her for much, much longer. They had clicked. That was for sure. "Lake it is then." Phoenix smiled back, looking down while she looked up, their gaze meeting for a moment that dragged on into seconds. He held it that long that it could of been able to be considered awkward. But it didn't feel that way. Her cheeks were beginning to flush again, something that made her azure peepers stand out more. His new friend was certainly beautiful. Phoenix had been very lucky tonight. It made his smile stretch and bare his pearly whites. "You finished eating, Rayski?" The young teen finally said, wrapping an arm around her for a half-hug. He didn't poke fun at her pinkened cheeks. It'd probably just ruin the moment.[/blockquote]

Rayne just couldn't stop smiling. It was as simple as that. She had given up trying to be her normal self. There was just something about Phoenix that brought out the part in her that had been hidden for a while. She was used to being this sarcastic, joking girl. Yet she hadn't made a joke since they had been in the kitchens. Not like she would have normally at least.
"I can't wait."
She said as she leaned a bit so he could put his arm around her. She set her plate on the ground before she wrapped her arm around his stomach/waist. If someone walked in right now, they would probably get the wrong idea and think they were together. "Yeah, I'm full." She said, but didn't bother moving or anything. She literally could just fall asleep right here, she was tired. "Now I'm just tired." She laughed at herself. Clearly she was tired, if she wasn't she wouldn't be laying over a guy she just met. Or... maybe she would. She wasn't exactly skittish when it came to things like this. [/blockquote]

Phoenix felt his stomach tingle with butterflies when Rayne wrapped her arm around his waist, nestling into him closer. He wondered for a moment if this was normal. He highly doubted that it was. But he didn't care. It was nice to have someone this close to him. It was something that the teen had never experienced before, having held onto the faint, very faint, hope that Mack would wake up one day and be... different. "We should probably think about heading back to our commons." Phoenix murmured, bringin his head down close to Rayne's, almost muttering into her hair. He gave the arm that his hand was resting on a tender rub. It was rather affectionate. "I can walk you if you want." He said it with a smile, leaning away just enough so he could peer down at Rayne's face. "Then we can meet at the lake after lunch. I'll bring some music, maybe some cards... and most probably some homework. Now, come on, its getting a bit late." Reluctantly, Phoenix slid up to his feet, trying not to disturb the girl to much. He offered her a hand to stand. "Curfew can't be far off."[/blockquote]

"Mmmm."
Rayne mumbled, almost falling asleep there. When he mentioned the commons, Rayne kind of snapped out of her sleepy daze and looked at him before unwrapping her arm from his waist and sitting up a bit when he stood up. "Ah yes. Homework. The devil." She said with a laugh before taking his hand and standing up. "And I'd like it if you walked me back." She smiled up at him. She knew he was right when he said curfew couldn't be far. Normally she wouldn't care, but considering she had just gotten out of a detention from staying out after curfew. Probably wasn't a good idea to turn around and do it again. She supposed it wouldn't matter if they were just getting food because Brent made them miss dinner. Teachers were mean. "Shall we go, Nyxie?" She smiled back at him. [/blockquote]

Phoenix smiled when she took up his offer of walking her back to the Gryffindor dorms. He never really went up to that part of the castle, only really to send letters and such, which wasn't often as his parents weren't too keen on the idea of having owls send letters. He just hoped that he had time to walk her up and walk back to his own common room before it was curfew. "Yeah, lets go, Rayski." Phoenix returned her smile and overtook her slightly. He surprised himself for a moment. He had almost given into an unexplained urge to slip his arm with hers and entwine them in a link. You didn't do that with people you barely knew. It just proved that he was feeling very comfortable in her company. Extremely so. "Despite having detention and then missing dinner... I had a good time." Phoenix confessed, bringing his hands up to the back of his head as he walked, peering over and down at the smaller student. "But I'm definitely ready for bed now." And, as if to prove his point, he had to beat down a large yawn with his hand.[/blockquote]
